Marvin Everett Obituary

EVERETT, Marvin Lewis, 91, of Joyner passed away on August 16, 2021. He was a lifelong resident of Joyner and a son of the late William Lawrence and Rena Norsworthy Everett. He was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey C. Everett; and a brother, William Lee Everett; and wife, Catherine.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Jean; and their two children, son, M.L. Everett Jr. (Jeannette); and daughter, Renita E. Snyder (Matt); four grandchildren, M. Lewis Everett III (Megan), Thane W. Everett (Gabrielle), Trevor A. Snyder and Danielle M. Snyder; five great-grandchildren, Logan K. Everett, Asher C. Everett, Braelyn F. Everett, Sawyer L. Everett and Casen M. Everett; two special nieces, Shirley E. Lee and Connie E. Burgess and their families. A very special thank you is given to all of his caregivers and especially Gabriela Mensch.

Marvin was the oldest member of Joyner United Methodist Church, where he served in numerous capacities.

He graduated from Drewryville High School, Military Police School and the two-year Veterans Agricultural School.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving one and a half years in Korea as a Sergeant in the Military Police, where he received several awards and a Korean Presidential Citation.

He, along with his wife, Betty, helped start two successful businesses, Everett Farms Inc. and Everett Trucking Inc.

Marvin was very active in his community serving as Past President and Charter Member of Joyner-Gray-Yale Ruritan Club; Zone Governor–Holland District Ruritan National; and Past Master–Courtland Masonic Lodge #85.

He was a founding member of The Peanut Coalition, The American Agricultural Movement and The Va.-Carolina Peanut Co-op. He was a past President of the Southampton County Farm Bureau, where he was an avid spokesperson for agriculture on the county and state levels by serving on numerous state agricultural boards and advisory committees and very proud to represent District 13 on the Board of Directors for Virginia Farm Bureau Federation and Affiliated Companies from 1990 to April 2007.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2021 in Wright Funeral Home. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home in Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Joyner United Methodist Church, c/o Jeannette Everett, Treasurer, 17413 Everett Rd., Capron, Va. 23829.

Mr. Everett was a great man in all respects, such a positive influence on and contributor to the community. Most of all I see his qualities in the family that he leaves behind, that alone speaks to the kind of man that he was. To Ms. Everett I send special sympathies and prayers.
