Mary Robinson Obituary

Mary Jane Robinson

September 11, 1935 - April 13, 2025

Mary "Jane" Robinson, 89, passed away on the evening of April 13, 2025 lovingly surrounded by family.

Jane was born on September 11th, 1935 to William Carl and Annie Hollins Rigsby. Jane is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Betty Rigsby Wickham. Jane spent her childhood in Louisa, Virginia raised on the family farm. At the age of 23, Jane was married to Johnny Robinson on January 31, 1959. They spent a wonderful 67 years together residing in Ashland, Virginia where they raised their three children David Robinson (Tracy), Tracie Cartledge (Joel), and Rob Robinson (Erica). Jane has two grandchildren Gavin Cartledge (Janet) and Holly Duley (Austin). She also has two great grandchildren who kept her young and brightened up her days- Charlotte-Jane Duley and Caroline Cartledge. When asked not long ago what she always dreamed of becoming, she said she only ever desired to be a good wife and a good mother. As a family, we can undoubtedly say that she exceeded that goal by far more than you could imagine.

Once empty nesters, Jane and Johnny spent over 30 years yachting and traveling the world together creating lasting memories and cherished experiences. They spent 15 years living aboard their boat in Florida each winter season.

Known for her kindness and warmth, she was the heart of our family. She was a guiding light and an endless support of love for all who knew her. Jane had a passion for the game of golf, not for the accolades or awards but for the joy, patience, and friendships that playing gave her. Throughout her golf career, Jane had three hole-in-ones. In true fashion, Jane passed shortly after the conclusion of the 89th Master's where she called the winner on the first day of the tournament and spent her final day listening to family take turns commentating every swing ending with her prediction coming true.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. Her memory will live on through every shared story, family dinners of her famous spaghetti and meatballs which she made completely from scratch, and lives well lived just as hers was.

Jane was a lifelong member of First Baptist Ashland where she was very active up until she could no longer attend in person. Our family cannot thank ACG hospice enough for the love and support they showed Jane and our family in her final weeks. There will be a graveside service at a later date for family and friends.

Jane was the epitome of graciousness. I got to know Jane in the 1980s when I joined the Women´s Golf Group at Hanover Country Club. She became a better golfer than I ever did.
Her smile, charm, and gracious demeanor were most authentic and enduring. I never met her over the years when she didn´t greet me with a sweet "hello" and warm smile.
My deepest condolences to her family. Peace be with you!
