Nancy Lee Byrd Ames

AMES, Nancy Lee Byrd, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 24, 2023 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her brother, Kevin Byrd; sister, Carolyn Meighan; parents, George and Edna (Townsend) Byrd; son-in-law, Ronald Gallier (April); and her beloved grandson, Joseph "JoJo" Baldwin. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, William A. Ames; children, April Gallier, Michael Ames (Cindy), Matthew Ames (Kristy), Noel Ames, Aimee Ames (Anna); brother, Rodney Byrd (Annette); sister, Rebecca "Becky" Byrd; five grandchildren, Caleb, Caitie, Cayla, Andrew and Stephan; three great-grandchildren, six nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and numerous long-term friends. Nancy was proud to serve as part of the Neighborhood Assistance Officer Program with the Richmond Police Department. She was also a Licensed Practical Nurse and enjoyed her nursing career. She was a member and former secretary of Hardy Central Baptist Church. Nancy also loved fishing, crafting (making clocks was a specialty) and was a talented seamstress. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 31, at Nelsen Funeral Home.
