Patricia Munford Obituary

Patricia Ann Jones Munford

May 13, 1935 - July 9, 2024

Patricia Ann Jones Munford passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024 in Haverford Pennsylvania. Born May 13, 1935 in Jamestown, New York, she is the daughter of Francis Rose Merz and Alan F. Jones. She is predeceased by her first husband Beverley Bland Munford III and brother Ralph Jones.

Patty Ann is survived by her three children Benton Alexander Munford, Mary Munford Catlett and Patricia Tinsley Munford.

She has five grand daughters: Beverly Bolen, Lucy Catlett, Molly Catlett, Lauren Munford and Sarah Munford.

As a child Patty Ann moved with her parents to Richmond Virginia and attended St. Catherine's School; and as a teenager Oldfields School in Glencoe, Maryland.

A gifted interior designer and illustrator she went on to graduate from Parsons School of Design in New York.

Among her many artistic talents she had a reputation for being a brilliant and fearless horseback rider. She had an enormous capacity for joy and fun. Her favorite comedian was Bob Newhart who made her laugh until she cried.

Patty also had an uncanny ability to create fascinating things out of nature. Her keen eye for beauty in nature was her constant source of inspiration; and it never left her.

During former President Jimmy Carter's term in the 1970's she was honored to be chosen to create Christmas ornaments for the White House Christmas tree. Representing her state she crafted whimsical ornaments using elements native to the state of Virginia.

Her hobbies included solitaire, collecting antiques; and flower arranging. She had a green thumb and could make any fading plant, flower, or tree spring back to life.

But the greatest love of her life was New York City which she valued as her true home. Always inhabiting a "let's go" attitude she spent many years living there until she moved to Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the state of New York and also the Jamestown chapter. She was a proud member of the Junior League of the city of New York.

We would like to thank all of the living angels at Brandywine Senior Living in Haverford; and the lovely caring community in Bryn Mawr who were incredibly sweet to her in her later years. There will be a private family burial in Jamestown New York at Lakeview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to The Roger Tory Peterson Institute in Jamestown New York. rtpi.org.

I've never forgotten her beauty as long as I can remember. Seeing her on Lock Lane and out and about, Patty was always a knock out! Clearly her great taste was passed on to her children and then grandchildren, and her love of horses. Heaven has a great decorator now and let the party begin!
I've got you all in my thoughts and prayers,
Dick Fowlkes
