Robert Bellis Engle

March 17, 1959 - March 9, 2025

Robert "Bob" Bellis Engle, 65 of Richmond, VA passed away on March 9 following complications from dementia. Born March 17, 1959, he cherished his years growing up with his family in Beach Haven, NJ - a setting that would inspire his deep love of the water and provide him valuable experience working in the hospitality industry. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Marilyn Engle, his brother William, and his nephew Jeffrey Adams. He is survived by his siblings Deborah (Al) Adams, Charles (Paula) Engle, and Susan (Paul) Sharkey, along with his nieces and nephews Stephanie Adams, Sharon Schuler, Jake Engle, Kelly Engle, Grace Engle, Pamela Rogers, Eric Sharkey, and Megan Sharkey, and his godchildren, Katherine Emerson and Peyton Emerson.

Bob graduated from Southern Regional High School in 1977 and Randolph-Macon College (RMC) in 1981. At RMC, Bob made lifelong friendships. Following graduation from college, he settled in Richmond and held management positions at numerous hotels including the John Marshall Hotel, The Commonwealth Park Suites Hotel, Holiday Inns 3200 and Crossroads, and the Crown Plaza Hotel before retiring early. Bob later worked part-time at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. He engaged in civic activities in the Fan and Richmond area, enjoyed many eateries including Bamboo Café and his longtime neighborhood favorite Gus' Bar and Grill. He and his dogs, Ernie I and Ernie II, made many friends in the neighborhood. He supported the RMC Yellow Jackets.

Services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice, Randolph-Macon College (rmc.edu) or the Richmond SPCA (richmondspca.org).
