Sarah Coleman Obituary

Sarah Coleman

January 19, 1964 - January 10, 2025

Sarah Coleman departed this earth for Heaven on January 10, 2025, surrounded by her husband and daughter, who loved her dearly, after a brave battle with cancer. Sarah was a graduate of Lee Davis High School where she excelled at softball and track. Her high jump record stood for decades until recently broken a few years ago and her name was removed from the gym wall at Lee Davis. She was a graduate of the Braxton School of Business and later received her Associates Degree as a real estate paralegal from Old Dominion University. She began her legal career at the office of George Walton, Esquire on Strawberry Street in the Fan. Later she moved to Esposito & Coleman, where she remained for 10 plus years. Leaving the law business, she moved to manage her own title company, Metropolitan Title & Escrow, a division of Centex Homes. After several years, she moved over to Centex Homes as their in-house paralegal. When Centex left the Richmond area, she worked a few years at Benchmark Mortgage, leaving there to be reunited with her Centex buddies, Jarod, Pat and Linda, for the last working year of her life, at H. H. Hunt. Sarah is survived by her husband of 25 years, W. Stephen Coleman, of Hanover; her daughter, Caroline Harris Coleman, of Morgantown, W.V.; her stepson, S. Bryan Coleman (Allie); and a brand-new grandson, William, all of Richmond; as well as a brother-in-law, Craig Harris Coleman (Ann), of Williamsburg. Also surviving is her sister, Mary Woody Haislip (David); her brother, Lt. Colonel Thomas M. Woody, HCSO (Jackie); a brother-in-law, John Cassidy; sister-in-law, Daphne Woody; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Anne Woody, of Hanover; and her in-laws, Bill and Gwen Coleman, of Buckingham County. Also preceding her were two brothers, Bill and Joe Woody, of Chesterfield; and two sisters, Martha and Katy Cassidy, of Hanover. The family gives special thanks to Abby of VCU Hospice, you're a superstar! And to "Perfect Mary", you've earned your place in Heaven!

A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on February 8, 2025, at Woody Funeral Home - Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, VA 23116. A Memorial Service will follow at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the V Foundation to further cancer research.
