To Erin & The Family
Hey baby girl , i was at disbelief when I heard of Shirley passing. I am at lost for words but you know she was always the laughter of the party. She was always straight forward and to the point with her hands always assisting her in talking. I did get to talk to her for a little while before her passing and I will always keep those words close to my heart. Luv you baby and keep her memory & legacy close to your heart ..

To the family and friends of Shirley G. Cash: May "Our Father" continue be your Rock! Things will get better with time. I was introduced to "Shirley Burley" many years ago by my cousin Regina Robinson at the "ball diamond" in Montpelier watching a softball games. Shirley would walk up out of no where at many other ball games at the diamond and have me and Gina bent over with laughter! The last time I saw Shirley was during a visit to Bethany Baptist Church, she spoke that day about a Quilting activity that she was involved with. I'm truly thankful I was in attendance that day. God Bless!

To Erin and the entire Cash/Green Family,
I first met Shirley, briefly, when our girls went to Brooklyn Middle School together during the "sleep over" days. I later met her when Tom Joyner came to Richmond for the 1st time at the Landmark Theater. We stayed out there all night to get in by 6am. Shirley kept us up on our feet and awake for hours. No one was a stranger to her. She was so energetic, friendly, and funny. I will never forget that day, it was Aug. 25, 2000, my birthday. I next met her at Bethany Baptist Church, to find out that she had known some of my family at the church and in Montpelier. It's a small world. I'm sorry I did not get to know her better. I got a taste of her beauty in one night but it seems as if I missed much more. To Erin and the rest, don't forget her smile and her love for you all. I was touched in my short time, so I know you have plenty to remember. Keep the FAITH and GOD WILL continue to BLESS you ALWAYS. Keep looking UP!!
GOD BLESS !!!

"Shirley Burley" as we called her in school. Then it was cut short to "Burley". I shared several classes with Burley in High School, but there is one in particular, French.
Our teacher was Madame Smith as we had to address her. As students, we had to have our names changed to a French name while in class. We all were so excited about being called another name other than our own.
Shirley's name was changed to Simone which she loved. When it was my turn to choose a name, Madame Smith would not allow me. Reason being my name is a French name and she told me that I had to keep it. Burley thought it was so funny and would not let me live it down. When we use to run into each other every now and then, she would bring it up and we both laughed about it.
Burley was a very fun and loving person that would keep a smile on your face. I can not recall of a day that she did not smile. She will be missed but I will forever cherish the memories that I have of her.
May God continue to be with you always.

Ms. Cash was my daughter (Alexis Taylor) 2nd grade teacher at Tappahannock Elementary School. Alexis will be starting high school in September and she still remembers Ms. Cash and often speaks of her. To the Green and Cash Family,
I was sadden to hear about Shirley and her going on home. All I know is that.... she is in a better place. We grew up as children together in the same community, graduated from high school together, and went our seperate ways. I really didn't cross paths with Shirley much after high school, but I know she was always the same kind of person...fun loving and kind. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To the Family of Shirley Cash
Brandon and I was saddened as we read of the passing of Ms. Cash. She was the best teacher a child could have. Ms. Cash and I spent many times first talking of my son progress and then we would sit and talk for an hour just about life. This time last year she attended my wedding and I was so glad to see her and thought of her so often wishing Brandon could have her as a teacher again. I will always remember her kindness. She has fought a good fight and she is now receiving her reward. Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. Rest on Ms.Cash. We loved you down here but GOD loves you best!
