Simon Wong Obituary

(Please note this is a corrected day and time of service.) Simon Wong, 39, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 1, 2004, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Rose P. Yuen; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Che Wong, all of Richmond; a brother, Joshua Wong (Yuent Wah Sat); and a sister, Eliza Wong, all of Hong Kong; nephews, Gerry Chong and Kai Kong Wong of Hong Kong; nieces, Ivy Chong of New York, Ching Yan Wong and Ching Yu Wong, both of Hong Kong. The family will receive friends 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road at Three Chopt. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Simon Wong Memorial Fund, c/o Simon & Gregory Salon, 444 N. Ridge Road, Richmond, Virginia 23229.

Simon, you fought such a tough battle for such a long time- a battle I prayed you would be sure to win. It was a blessing you had Rose by your side fighting and trying to be strong for you. When I saw you during my last appointment at Simon-Gregory I just knew it was almost time- so frail, weak and tired. Say hi to Pat for me. It is a blessing the two of you are no longer suffering.

I first met Simon 13 years ago at a time when I didn't feel that great about myself. Simon wasn't just a hair stylist, he was an artist. His recreation gave me back my confidence. People would stop me on the street to ask me where I got my hair cut. But I appreciated Simon for more than his skill. It was a blessing to know him. He was a gentle, humble man who loved life and took pride in making his customers look their best. He displayed excellence not only in his work but in his life. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Rose, I can't stop thinking about you. I pray that God will comfort you and keep you, and the rest of Simon's family.

Simon was one of the first people I met in Richmond when I moved here 4 years ago. My good friend Linda introduced me to her stylist and we immediately hit it off.
