Dear Stanley,
My childhood friend, I am devastated to just now learn of your passing. I have spent the last ten years or so traveling the Pacific region, and I am now finding that so many of my childhood friends are gone. We met in 4th grade at Amelia Street School, and I looked up to you DAY ONE. You taught me to play chess, and also schooled me on how to turn the tables on the bullies. Your intelligence was unmatched.
I remember convincing you to go to Randolph Jr. High as opposed to Binford, and we had three more years together before forced busing separated us pretty much for good.
Stan, more than your friends and family, the community at large will miss you because YOU MADE IT COOL TO BE SMART.
ALOHA, my buddy.
