Thelma Nelson Snead, age 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 17, 2025, in Midlothian, Virginia. Born on June 13, 1929, in Richmond, Virginia, she lived a long and full life centered around the joy her family brought her.

Thelma was the daughter of Finley N. and Bessie C. Nelson. She was preceded in death by her husband, of nearly 35 years, Henry A. "Tommy" Snead; and brother, Clarence Nelson. She is survived by her daughter, Gay S. Capps (Jack); her grandchildren, Thomas Bradley "Brad" Capps (Brittany) and Kendall Capps Gaume (Matthew); her cherished great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Ainsley, Cannon, and Cullen Capps; as well as Lily and Lexi Gaume.

Thelma had a lifelong passion for flowers and flower arranging. She also loved ceramics, coloring, reading, and traveling in her earlier years. Her affection for animals was evident in the special bond she shared with her beloved dachshund Theodore and her grand puppies Major and Chester.

Her kindness extended beyond family to friends and neighbors alike. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Darlene and Sheila Reese, Chip and Theresa Folland, Bert Bonner, Lynn Pearson, and Judy Dannenhoffer for their enduring support and friendship over the years. Thanks also to the staff of Brookdale Senior Living and Bristol Hospice for their loving care in her last months.

At her request, memorial celebration and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to any animal shelter or rescue organization of your choice to honor her love of animals.
