Wayne Shields

SHIELDS, Wayne, of Richmond, VA, was beloved by his family and friends, the Richmond community, and, most recently, the town of Montross, where he was anointed as the Mayor of his neighborhood, Stratford Harbor.

Like any good mayor, Wayne took an interest in the lives of his constituents and the community itself. Whether it was giving someone a ride in his truck, organizing the Easter Egg Hunt, sending off baked goods during the holidays or being overly social during water aerobics, Wayne finished off his years as he lived his entire life- bringing joy and generosity to all those he encountered. And Wayne encountered quite a few folks in his lifetime.

Wayne owned a store in downtown Richmond called Shields Collectibles, and to hear him tell it, everyone from movie stars to elected officials to wanted criminals walked through the doors at some point in time. They all came to look through the thousands upon thousands of items he had on display, many with a price tag that simply had a picture of an arm and a leg on them. Folks most certainly also came to shoot the breeze with Wayne, who could recount a story with the best of them.

Many of those stories involved his collectibles- where he had found them, who he had bought them from, how much he had paid, and what they were now worth. These tales were made even more memorable by the small (or sometimes sizable) embellishments Wayne might add to spice them up. And it's that lively spice, delivered with his charming smile, that we all loved and will miss so much.
