William Butcher Obituary

BUTCHER, William "Bill" Alexander, On Thursday, April 8, 2021, William "Bill" Alexander Butcher passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Veronica Roa Butcher and father of two children, Amanda and Nicholas (Nicky).

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Mary (Tina) and George F. Butcher. He is survived by his wife, Veronica; and children, Amanda and Nicholas (Nicky); his sister, Jean Nelson (Van); his brother, George Butcher (Wei); and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bill was born on December 14, 1958 in Richmond, Va. He attended Benedictine High School, and continued on to VCU to eventually earn his master's in economics. Ever since he was gifted his first mini-bike in his early teens, Bill had been passionate about racing motorcycles. Always an entrepreneur, he turned his passion into a business and founded Motosport. He nurtured his business from a small Washington startup to the largest online retailer of motorcycle parts and supplies, including a dirt bike dealership and race team. Bill went on to become an entrepreneur of various businesses, including everything from fishing to furniture. He even dabbled in the entertainment industry, writing TV scripts, and always took pride in his work "in the Biz."

Even greater than Bill's passion for business was his love and devotion to his family. He aspired to show his children the world through travel and encouraged them to experience all of the joys of life. His expectation of higher education for his children was unwavering, and he made sure to support them every step of the way. This generous support of education extended far and wide.

Bill was a great guy with a big heart who was always fun to be with, especially in Vegas. He truly touched everyone in his life and will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on May 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Maronite Catholic Church, 4611 Sadler Rd., Glen Allen, Va. There will be a gathering of family and friends in the church hall immediately after the mass.

I first met Bill at Bronner Slosberg Humphrey (now Digitas) in Boston. We quickly became good friends. He was always so full of life and so fun to be with. Since I got the message from Veronica, I keep celebrating our friendship and the simple pleasures of life that we shared.

My first vivid memory is our shopping trips to Breeches clothing store, on Boylston, in Boston. Breeches was largely the only brand Bill would wear at that time. Bill took his time, literally purchasing half the store, eaving with two handfuls of shopping bags.

Another vivid Boston memory is our Sushi dinner, at Gyuhama, on Boylston Street. Bill ordered the Lobster sashimi. To his surprise, the Lobster arrived on a large sashimi plate still moving. Bill sent the Lobster back telling the waiter: "I don´t want it to move".

And then there was Bill visiting our home in Walnut Creek, in his Porsche convertible, and taking one of our children for a ride around the block.

Goodbye Bill. I was lucky to have you as a friend. I will treasure these memories, and many more, in my heart forever and always.
