William Marvin Shaw, Sr., 83, of Montpelier, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Born in Augusta County, he was the son of the late Marvin Lee Shaw and Mary Agnes Sprouse Shaw. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cornelia Anne Hudgins Shaw; son, Danny Lee Shaw; brother, Wayne Shaw; and sisters, Bernice O'Neil and Evelyn Martinez. He is survived by his son, William "Bill" Shaw, Jr. (Karen); granddaughters, Danielle Hailee Shaw and Madison Paige Shaw; and sisters, Judy Shortt (Hubert), Linda Shaw, and Brenda Durette (Stuart). William was a proud Veteran having served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years and the Virginia Air National Guard for 20 years. He then went on to work for Philip Morris until his retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Most of all, his greatest passion was his family and he loved spending time with his granddaughters.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., Glen Allen, VA 23060. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Dunns Chapel Cemetery, Montpelier, VA. Bill and family we send our heart felt condolences and prayers to you all. Sonny will truly be missed. He was one of a kind and heaven has welcomed home a wonderful man.
One of my favorite memories of Sonny was our conversation of his love of his country and family.
May you find comfort in knowing he has gone home to be with Anne and Danny.

To Bill, Karen, Danielle, and Madison,
I'm very saddened at the passing of Sonny. He was a good friend and mentor, and I will surely miss him. Through his numerous deployments to the Ga ANG in Savannah, I've known him and Ms Anne for many years and they were family to my wife and I. Be comforted knowing that they are together now. I pray that God will give comfort and solace to you all.
