Georgia Benedict Obituary

Georgia Taylor Benedict passed away on January 5 after a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in San Diego, CA to Virginia and Wayne Taylor on November 6, 1949. Georgia received her bachelor's degree in theatre from CSU Fullerton, graduating with honors, after which she attended Temple University in Philadelphia in the MFA theatre program. She returned to Orange County before she and her husband, Mark Haselfeld, moved to Benicia in 1981.Since the 1980's Georgia worked as a territory manager and sales representative in the wholesale office products industry, spending the last 11 years as a regional representative for office supplies wholesaler Pens, Etc. based in Chandler, Arizona. Many of her customers became lifelong friends.Georgia loved theater and working in it. She appeared in several productions for the Benicia Old Town Theatre in the 1980's. She also stage-managed at several other Bay Area theatres, including many shows for Contra Costa Musical Theatre, Diablo Light Opera Company, and Contra Costa Civic Theatre. In addition, she house-managed at the Lesher Center in Walnut Creek.Georgia was very active with Solano County Friends of Animals. She and Mark took care of many homeless cats in her neighborhood, including trapping, spaying and neutering, and returning a large number of her feline friends. She fostered many kittens and made sure they were adopted into good homes.Georgia made friends everywhere. She always gave unconditional love and support to her friends. She was always ready to take a trip to the City to visit a museum or meet up for the new adventure. She loved traveling; Maui and Sequoia were two of her favorite places.Georgia is survived by her husband of 35 years, Mark Haselfeld; her three sisters, Sandra Hendrickson, Marsha Hildebrand, and Anita Nikiforuk; as well as nieces and nephews and her beloved godson, Anthony Pruitt. Georgia's parents, Wayne and Virginia Taylor, preceded her in death. She leaves behind innumerable friends who will miss her kindness and vivacious love of life.Mark would like to extend thanks to Kaiser hospice and her three close friends who were also with her in her last days.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Solano County Friends of Animals (https://scfoarescue.org/donate/) and/or Contra Costa Civic Theatre (https://ccct.org/donate/). We anticipate a celebration of Georgia's life as soon as it becomes feasible.

Georgia was my pens etc rep for 10 years at UC Merced. I learned of her passing today after trying to reach out to her earlier this week. I am terribly saddened by this devastating loss. Georgia was more than my rep, we instantly became friends when we began working together. I have met very few people that had a heart as kind as Georgia. We often caught up over lunch during her visits and she always wanted to know about my kids and what they were up to. She took great pleasure and pride in speaking about her husband and her practically adopted son, both of whom I could tell she loved deeply. She talked about theater and all of her amazing projects- her passion. I will never forget her amazing personality or her fabulous colorful wardrobe that only she could pull off. I will miss working with her and I was so excited to connect with her again. Georgia- you will be terribly missed by those of us in the University world. To her family- my sincerest condolences. She was unforgettable in the best way. I hope that your wonderful memories of her provide you with some comfort. You were blessed and I feel blessed simply to have known her.

I am so very sorry to hear this. I met Georgia through work and she always had such a wonderful smile on her face and was such a positive presence every time she walked through the door. Since she had been diagnosed we had kept in pretty close contact via email and she was very supportive when we were evacuated during the fires. I know you will be missed not only by your lifelong friends and family, but also by anyone who knew you on any level.

Georgia was my next door neighbor for many many years. Everyday I would see her and mark and we would always talk and say hi. She was always working in her yard and she would come recruit my 2 sons to lend a hand in raking leaves or whatever she need help with. She always welcomed us every year to have Christmas Eve Dinner with her and Mark surprise birthday parties and my baby shower she hosted all of them. Georgia loved going places and after Anthony got older she started taking my 2 boys on adventures from the theater to the zoo. Mark and her will always be our family we love them so much and will miss Georgia she was an amazing person and I fill forever blessed to have had her and still have mark in my life. “Gone but never forgotten” Love always Crystal, Dave, Jj and Adrian
