Carl Gingher Jr.

Carl E. Gingher Jr., 82, of Tunkhannock, died Wednesday at Tyler Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He and his wife, Marge, would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary August 12.
Born in Scranton on September 8, 1925, he was a son of the late Carl E. Gingher Sr. and Mary Cook Gingher. He attended North Scranton High School and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942, serving on LSM 61 in the Pacific and landing at ports-of-call including Okinawa, Saipan and Japan. He married Margaret Zalewski, of Bardwell, in 1950. Along with his wife and three children, he moved from Scranton to Tunkhannock in 1963, making it their homestead for the past 45 years.
A mechanical designer and toolmaker, Carl was instrumental in establishing Dutch Stoker Stoves, Gingher Manufacturing and Gingher Engineering. He was employed by General Electric, and finally retired from RCA in Dunmore in 1985.
Carl was an expert in the mechanical workings of all sorts of machines and took pride in being able to explain, in intricate detail, their functionality to anyone who would listen. He was known for his mechanical ability and craftsmanship. In his younger years, he loved fishing and sailing.
Carl was a frequent morning visitor to Donut Country in Tunkhannock, where he shared a cup of coffee and classic stories with his friends.
Carl was a member of Nativity BVM Church in Tunkhannock. He volunteered in the initial set-up and operations at the Wyoming County Fair until his health prevented him from doing so. He was also a member of American Legion Dennis Strong Post 457, the Endless Mountains Amateur Radio Club, the Emergency Management Association of Wyoming County and the Sampson World War II Navy Veterans Organization.
Surviving are his wife, Marge; two sons, Carl III and wife Judy, Rich and wife Laura, all of Tunkhannock, Pa.; daughter Patty and husband Geno Curran, of Madison Township, Pa.; three grandchildren, Amy Gingher, Kevin Curran and Molly Curran; a step-sister, Carolyn Gingher Naumann; nieces and nephews.
Carl was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 31 at 9:30 a.m. from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., 73 West Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with a Mass of Christian Burial from the Church of Nativity B.V.M. in Tunkhannock at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Friday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m.
