Constance Mayock Obituary

Constance Peruzzi Mayock died peacefully at her home in Waverly Heights surrounded by family on Feb. 28, 2022.

She was born in South Orange, N.J., on Sept. 24, 1928, and was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Robert L. Mayock, MD and her parents Ruth Edwards Peruzzi and Mario Peruzzi.

Connie is survived by her sons, Robert L. Mayock Jr. and his wife Teresa Chamizo Mayock and Stephen P. Mayock and his wife Christine Dornberger Mayock, and her daughter, Holly Mayock Luff and her husband William G. Luff Jr.

She was a wonderful mother-in-law and proud grandmother to Katherine Mayock Klenda and her husband Trevor Klenda and three great grandchildren, William, Thomas and Emily; Stephen P. Mayock Jr. and his wife Yuxuan Mayock, Elizabeth Mayock Polchin and her husband Christopher Polchin and great-grandson Nicholas; and to Tyler Mayock Luff and Nicole Frances Luff.

Connie was proud of her family heritage and the storied history of Planter's Peanuts, which her grandfather Mario Peruzzi co-founded in Wilkes Barre, Pa. Affectionately known to friends as the "Peanut Princess" she avidly collected Planters Peanuts memorabilia. She and Bob shared a deep love of nature and the Pocono mountains, where they first met and courted, and maintained a family cabin in Bear Creek, where five generations of family members continue to vacation.

Connie was an avid volunteer, which began when she first moved to Philadelphia with the Junior League and was actively involved with the restoration of Chamounix Mansion in Fairmount Park. During these years she also found great joy in volunteering with various committees that supported the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where Bob served as the Head of the Pulmonary Department and Professor Emeritus.

Connie found her true love and passion, though, volunteering with the Philadelphia Antiques Show where she served as Chair from 1973-1976 and remained active for many decades. There she made lasting friendships with committee members and dealers alike. In addition to HUP, Connie was passionate about her love of the Philadelphia Orchestra and served on the West Philadelphia Committee of the Philadelphia Orchestra where she chaired the Opening Night Gala and assisted with other fund-raisers including the Morning Musicales and West Philadelphia Orchestra Cookbook. Connie became a resident of Waverly Heights in 2005, and once widowed, found friendship and companionship with fellow resident William Bates. Together they volunteered at Waverly, traveled, spent time with their respective families, and enjoyed a loving relationship until Bill's passing in 2021.

She was a member of the Merion Cricket Club, the Westmoreland Club and the Acorn Club and a former Trustee of Wilkes College.

In lieu of flowers, donations are kindly requested to be made to the University of Pennsylvania Department of Pulmonary Medicine. Services will be scheduled for a later date.
