PLAINS TWP. — John "Jack" Theodore Humble, 90, passed to glory's side to live forever with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Nov. 24, 2014.
Jack, born on Sept. 19, 1924, in Plains Township, was a son of the late James and Ellen Humble. He was preceded in death by three brothers; three sisters; and his son-in-law, Terry Besancon.
Jack and the late Shirley Sutton Humble shared 63 years of marriage and we are rejoicing that they are now reunited in heaven. He was the father of John, husband of Sandy, Jacksonville, Florida, Barbara, Lancaster, Elizabeth Berry, wife of David, Wilkes-Barre, and Ellen, wife of the late Terry Besancon, Quarryville. In addition to his children, he is survived by his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He graduated from Plains High School, class of 1942, and was a standing member of the class reunion committee. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Jack was employed for 46 years at Acme Markets, Forty Fort, and helped to establish their WOD Federal Credit Union, serving as president for many years. Upon retirement Jack worked as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the American Red Cross. He also found many opportunities to help others in need including neighbors, family members and friends.
Jack's faith in his savior, Jesus Christ, has always been first and foremost in his life and he served at Parsons Primitive Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher, station stewart and member of the choir, trustee board and the national mission board. He was also instrumental in the formation of the men's prayer breakfast and participated in the men's Bible study group.
Jack's quiet strength has been an anchor for his family and, although not tall by human measure, he towered in integrity in the eyes of others.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Parsons Primitive Methodist Church, 193 Austin Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with Andy Jerome, pastor, officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at Parsons Primitive Methodist Church. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Dallas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Primitive Methodist National Mission Board, c/o Pastor Jerome, or the American Red Cross, 256 N. Sherman St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

John was such a wonderful man. I knew him well as he faithfully came to volunteer at the American Red Cross where I was employed as director of volunteers. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone and there is no question in my mind that God and his loving wife Shirley are rejoycing with him now. May God Bless all of his earthly family.
Sincerely

I met your dad as a fellow deliverer for Meals on Wheels. I admired his warmth and quiet confidence. He was a true gentleman and I will miss his smile and friendship.

John & Sandy, Barbara, Elizabeth & David, Ellen and extended family:
My heart sorrows at the loss of someone so special to all of us. We can only rejoice that the faith he held fast too has taken him to our Savior and to his beloved wife and he rests in His arms now. I am thankful that the Lord provided the recent opportunity for him to visit us at Clearlake with Elizabeth. Those days were indeed very special and will always remain in my heart and mind. We shared a lot in those hours. Several of his comments to me made me feel he knew he would soon be home with the Lord. At the time I tried to pass them off, but now I realize he could see beyond what we are able to see right now. I cherish all the hours we had that weekend as we were able to laugh a little cry a little and review many years of wonderful times together. I shall always remember life on Oliver Street when we came to visit and especially cherish the Christian love and fellowship we enjoyed over the years. Your parents' marriage and Christian example were not only a role model for all of us, but a view of heaven to come. May God Bless you all as you mourn this loss but may you find Peace, Joy and Hope in the fact you will be with him one day again. He truly was gifted in the Spirit and unashamed to share this message with all. A blessing to each and everyone of us who had the privilege of being part of his life. We love you all. God Bless.
