Wendy Fisher Obituary

Wendy Lee Fisher, a guest at Lehigh Center, Lower Macungie Township, Lehigh County, died Monday, September 3, 2007, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Hammond Edward and Carolyn Goldstein Fisher.
Her father, better known as “Ham” Fisher, was the cartoonist who originated the Joe Palooka cartoon series, popular in the 1930s and 1940s, about a boxer from Wilkes-Barre and his family and career.
Wendy had resided in Wilkes-Barre until moving to the Lehigh Valley several years ago.
She attended James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, and had been cared for by the family of the late Catherine Jones, who died in 1983.
Since that time she had been cared for by other members of the Jones family, including the late William G. and Carole M. Jones and the late Bonnie Jones Bays.
She is survived by foster relatives, the Rev. William D. Jones, of Middleburg; Kristen, Will and Benjamin Jones, all of Plains; Donald R. and Kelly Ann Bays, of Allentown; and Jamie Lyn Bays, of Rohnert Park, Calif.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 451 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. William D. Jones, pastor, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Middleburg, officiating. Private interment will be in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
