Gaylord Boyce Dye
73, of Kimbolton (Coshocton County), passed away late Wednesday morning, Oct. 2 at the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus. Gaylord was born in Gastonia, N.C. on Feb. 8, 1940, a son of the late Tom and Lillie Bertha Cross Dye. He was a graduate of Belmont High School, Belmont, N.C. Gaylord was an Army veteran, serving at Ft. Benning, Ga. He returned to civilian life and was a self-employed truck driver for many years. He was also employed as a driver for McLane Trucking, Summit County, Ohio, for several years before a medical disability retirement in 1985. Gaylord was a member of the Thomas Montgomery Post #431, Newcomerstown American Legion, where he served as Treasurer. He enjoyed fishing, working on automobile engines, and gardening. He was also an avid NASCAR fan and his favorite driver was the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr., in race car #3.
Gaylord is survived by his wife, Edra M. Bittecuffer Dye, Kimbolton, whom he married April 4, 1982. Also surviving are four sons and two daughters, Gaylord "Chip" and wife, Sharon Dye, Jr., Joseph and wife, Tina Zuk, Robert Zuk, Tracy Dye, Lynda Dye and Donna and husband, Mark Sharrock. Gaylord also leaves 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers; and four sisters. He was preceded in death by a sister.
To honor Gaylord's wishes, his remains are to be cremated. No visiting hours or memorial services will be scheduled at this time. The family is requesting that memorials be made in Gaylord's name to the Thomas Montgomery Posts #431, Newcomerstown American Legion, One Canal Court, Newcomerstown, 43832.
