Doris Trevvett Obituary

Doris Elizabeth (Glenister) Trevvett 1939 - 2016
POLAND - Doris Elizabeth (Glenister) Trevvett, 77, died December 23, 2016, at her home in Poland.
She was born June 19, 1939, in Utica, the last child of Rev. Francis Glenister and Gladys (Legge) Parker. Doris received her schooling in Rio Grande, Ohio, Penn Yan, NY, and graduated in 1956 from Poland Central School, Poland, and in 1960 from SUNY Potsdam, with a major in music. She was married August 13, 1960, to Herbert E. Trevvett, of Cold Brook, and taught music in the Whitesboro School system, for two years, before settling down at their home on Millington Avenue, Poland, to rear their three children.
Doris was a member of the Glass Hill Golf Club, the Kuyahoora Seniors, and served as Town of Russia Tax Collector and President of the Poland Library for a number of years. Early risers will remember seeing Doris and her friend, Peggy Caneen, walking the streets of Poland each weekday morning. She played bridge each week with her friend, Pat DiTata, and other players, and card games with her friends, Sandy Darrow and Marguerite Herring. For over 30 years, Doris, as choir director, and another friend, Betsy Newman, as organist, were responsible for the music at the Poland Community Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Trevvett and her husband, Geoffrey Hamilton, of Newberg, OR, Thomas Trevvett and his spouse, Jerry Tambiling, Newport, and Paul Trevvett and his life partner, Andrew Smith, Cold Brook; two sisters, Ruth and Althea Glenister, of Poland; stepsister, Virginia Clark, of Ripton, VT; two sisters-in-law, Janet Glenister, of Vernon, CT, and Barbara Trevvett, of Cold Brook; as well as two special nieces, Shari Davison and Sue Ward, of Denver, CO. She also leaves many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including her Poland Community Baptist church family. She was predeceased by her husband; parents; and four brothers, Richard Rolland, and Robert, Donald and David Glenister.
Doris was always ready to do anything for those around her and had a cheerful, optimistic attitude right up to her death. Children will remember the "shrieking ghost" she hung on her porch each Halloween and the peanut butter cups she gave out. Her niece, Shari, has given the title of "world's best" to Doris's lasagna and macaroni and cheese. Doris had a strong religious faith and believed that she will rejoin those who passed on before her in Heaven. In the words of fourteenth century Julian of Norwich, "All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well."
The family would like to thank Laura Surman, NP, Drs. DeTraglia, Lawrence, and Murphy, the medical staff of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, of Boston, and Judy Stubba, and other members of Hospice, who cared for Doris at the end.
The funeral will be held at the Community Baptist Church, Poland, on Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Mark Sellers, officiating. Spring interment will take place in Prospect Cemetery. Calling hours at the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport, are Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Donations, in Doris's memory, may be made to the Poland Library. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Such a wonderful giving person who had an impact on many lives. I haven't seen her in many years but remember her always as an energetic and positive choir director. You couldn't be in a bad mood when you saw that smile! She played at our wedding in 1994. Condolences to the family.

My heart is broken, as I have just read Deb's email with the sad news. Doris and I were Phi K Sorority sisters together at Potsdam, Class of 1960, and have kept in touch all these years....getting together for many lunches, sharing visits, many phone conversations, and a special return trip to Potsdam for a big reunion weekend...much fun. Doris (or "Dodo", as I still called her from our Potsdam days) was a very special person, and a special friend. We had planned to get together for lunch again. I will miss her so. Love and Hugs. Dodo....You are in my prayers always, dear friend. Pat Pasiakt
