HERKIMER - Peter Kurilo, age 93, a resident of 104 North Washington Street since 2011, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, May 2, 2018, in the Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center, Ilion.
Peter was born on May 12, 1924, in Herkimer, son of the late Orest and Mary Demchko Kurilo. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, he grew up on his parent's farm and graduated from Richfield Springs High School. Mr. Kurilo was a proud US Army veteran and was honorably discharged in 1949. For thirty years, Peter worked as a pipefitter for Crouse Hines, in Syracuse, before retiring in 1985. To all who knew him, they will never forget a warm, caring man with an unforgettable smile. His leisure time was spent shopping for collectables and enjoyed showing them to friends and family members. He was a loved man and will be greatly missed.
Surviving him are three nieces, Mary Halkowich Jaques, of Keene Valley, Rose Karpowich Gala, of Cape Coral, FL and Judy Karpowich, of Ilion; along with two great-nieces; one great-nephew; seven great-great-nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia Halkowich, in 2009 and Anna Karpowich, in 2013.
Calling hours, funeral service and interment in Dolgeville Cemetery with Military Honors for Mr. Kurilo will be announced at a later time.
