Carol Auriemma Obituary

Auriemma, Carol A. GLENVILLE Carol A. Auriemma was called into the loving arms of the Lord on October 21, 2009. Carol fought a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. During her time on earth, Carol was loved and admired by family, friends and strangers. She had an open heart and a smile that warmed the hearts of everyone who knew her. Carol's greatest pleasure in life was her family and four grandchildren whom she adored. She cherished her time spent with them and loved having them call "Grandma Carol." Carol was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and moved to Fort Johnson, N.Y. with her mom in 1947. She was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School and its Sigma Phi Sorority. She married Joseph R. Auriemma on July 8, 1967 at St. Mary's Church in Amsterdam. Carol was employed by G.E. as a secretary for seven years and for over 20 years as a receptionist for G. Kirk Gleason, D.D.S. in Clifton Park. She was a communicant and eucharistic minister of O.L. of Grace Church in Ballston Lake. She was a charter member of the Freedom Park Foundation in Scotia and one of the original volunteers for Proctor's Theatre. Carol earned the Lifetime Achievement Award at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and taught religious instruction as well as being a Girl Scout leader. Carol was administrative assistant for the Speach and Reading Improvement Center Inc. based in Glenville. She was predeceased by her mother, Jane Vertucci Laychak. Survivors include her beloved husband Joe; a son, Joseph Auriemma Jr. and his wife Nancy of Kingston; and daughter, Kelly A. Opiela and her husband Scott of Scotia; her cherished grandchildren, Jared and Rachel Auriemma and Kira and Alex Opiela. Funeral services will begin Saturday 8:45 a.m. from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at O.L. of Grace Church, 73 Midline Rd. (Route 146A), Ballston Lake at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend and may also call at the Glenville Funeral Home Friday from 4-7 p.m. Interment, St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glen-ridge Rd., Glenville. Dearest Joe and family,

God Bless all of you at your time of this great loss. Joe I used to work with you at VNA. I must say when I saw you on the outside of work, you always had your beautiful women by your side. I never met Carol but can only imagine you two together. I admire your worship for her and with that you will always have" that little angel on your shoulder". It comes with great grief from me for your loss. I wanted to be there to comfort you but for my own reasons I could not be there. I heard the pictures of her were just beautiful!!!!!!! Keep strong as alot of our patients at VNA need you. Love always, Donna Brust ( I will always remember you as a great man)!!!! Keep those kisses coming for those grandkids and for those who you love.

When you feel a gentle breeze
Caress you when you sigh
It's a hug from Heaven
From Carol one way up high.

If a soft and tender raindrop
Lands upon your nose
They've added a small kiss
As fragile as a rose.

If a song you hear fills you
With feeling of sweet love
It's a hug from Heaven
From Carol up above.

If you awaken in the morning
To a bluebird's chirping song
It's music sent from Heaven
To cheer you all day long.

If little tiny snowflakes
Land upon your face
It's a hug from Heaven
Trimmed with Angel lace.

So keep the joy in your heart
If you're lonely my dear friend
Hugs that are sent from Heaven
A broken heart will mend.

Our prayers & thoughts are with you all at this difficult time.

Love -
Chris, Dee & Dean Pappas

Joe, I last saw you 28 years ago on November 20, 1981 and I still have fond memories of that day. It was the day I was married and you played at our wedding. You also were mine and my husband's speech teacher in Forts Ferry and Blue Creek respectively. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time, but it gives me a chance to tell you how very thankful I am for all you did for me and how much respect I have and will always have for you.

We were so saddened to learn of Carol's passing. Even though we knew her only through our meetings at the desk at Dr. Gleason's office, we found her to be kind and concerned and always helpful. She was always dressed "to the nines" and always had a smile on her face. She was a most lovely lady who will be missed by all. Linda and Jim Mizeur
