Carol Leitner Obituary

Leitner, Carol Debbie LOUDONVILLE Carol Debbie Leitner, age 65, of Loudonville, died on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at the Albany Medical Center. Born on October 12, 1951, in Brooklyn, Carol is the daughter of Audrey Unger of Albany and the late Daniel Solomon Unger. She was a graduate of St. John's University where she received her B.S. degree in elementary education and her master's degree in reading from the State University of Albany, N.Y. Carol was raised in Queens, where is lived near her future husband. Carol and Jeff began dating in high school. She was 15 and he was 17. They were married during Jeff's third year of dental school. While in the Air Force, they lived near Phoenix, and in Ankara, Turkey. After Jeff left the Air Force, they moved to Loudonville, with their daughter, Lynn. A second daughter, Jodi, was born shortly after. Carol was a beautiful person whose family was her life. Having raised two daughters, she provided childcare for her four grandchildren for 16 years until her passing. Survivors in addition to her mother, include her husband, Jeffrey Leitner, D.M.D.; daughters, Lynn Hickey, M.D. (Kevin Hickey, Esq.) and Jodi Tully, M.S. (John Tully, Esq.). Sister of William Jeffrey Unger, D.D.S. (Mary Peterson). Grandmother of Evan Michael Tully, Danny Liam Hickey, Matthew Brian Tully and Tara Rose Hickey. Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Ave., Albany, NY, on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at 2 p.m. interment will follow in the Beth Emeth Cemetery, Loudonville. We would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and technicians who cared for Carol these past seven years following her diagnosis of diabetes. The staff of Fresenius Albany Dialysis Center and the doctors and nurses at Albany Memorial Hospital Cardiac Care Unit. Those wishing to remember Carol in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the American Diabetes Association, 2 Pine West Plaza, Albany, NY 12205, or the Northeast Kidney Foundation, 501 New Karner Rd., Suite 6, Albany, NY 12205. Carol was one of the first friends we made when we moved into our Loudonville home in the late 70s, largely because her daughter Lynn and our daughter Annice were pals in elementary and middle school, and often visited each other's homes. At one point, when my husband and I had to work until 5, and Annice was facing the prospect of being a latch key kid, Carol offered to let her stay at her home with Lynn until my husband could pick her up. We will never forget that kindness, or the frienship that seemed to evolve so naturally between us. Although we sold our home many years ago and rarely have occasion to pass by Marie Parkway, whenever we do go by we think of Carol and her warm heart and caring personality -- how she was taken much too soon and how lucky we were to call her our friend.

Neil and I were very saddened to hear of Carol's passing. We went to high school with her and recently thought of her and Jeff and attempted to reach out to them. We have fond memories of double dating . Please accept our sincerest condolences .
