Edward Budd Obituary

Budd, Edward J. Sr.
EAST GREENBUSH - Edward J. "Ed" Budd, Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of the Capital Region's business community, passed away peacefully at home, Monday, July 21, 2025, in East Greenbush, where he had lived his entire life. He was 80 years old.
Born on July 3, 1945, in Albany, Ed was the beloved son of the late Joseph L. Budzichowski and Helen F. Powell. A proud graduate of Siena College, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, and soon after began a distinguished career in public accounting. He joined the firm of Shaye, Lutz, Schwartz & King, which later became part of PricewaterhouseCoopers, P.C., where he provided expert accounting services to closely held businesses.
Throughout his career, Ed earned a reputation for excellence, trust, and deep client relationships. He brought particular expertise in estate, family transition, and succession planning, advising a wide range of clients including national wholesalers, auto dealers, contractors, and professionals. His sound judgment and attention to detail made him a trusted advisor across generations of business owners. He provided high-quality accounting, auditing, tax, and management advisory services with integrity and professionalism.
Ed was a proud member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of CPAs. Beyond his professional affiliations, he was actively engaged in the local business community, serving as a member, and past treasurer and president, of the NENY BNI Referrals Unlimited Chapter, in Latham. He was also a longstanding member of the Latham-Colonie Chamber of Commerce.
Outside of work, Ed was an avid golfer and a proud 8 handicap, always up for a competitive round with friends or family. He found peace and joy in the outdoors, and had a deep appreciation for nature's beauty. His loyal canine companions, Koby and Kora, were never far from his side, and brought him great comfort and companionship.
Above all, Ed was a family man. He is survived by his devoted wife, Marie Kobylack; and by his sons, Edward J. Budd, Jr. (Michele) and Jeffrey C. Budd (Ursula Kretschman). He was the proud grandfather of Christopher (Amanda) Budd, Ashley Budd, Lauren Budd, and Alyssa Budd, each of whom brought him great joy.
Ed's legacy will be remembered for his sharp mind, unwavering work ethic, and quiet dedication to those he loved. His guidance and presence will be deeply missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ed's family, from 4 to 7 p.m., on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer, N.Y. 12144. A funeral service will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at Holy Sepluchre Cemetery, 3rd Ave. Ext., Rensselaer, N.Y. 12144.
