Florence Stout Obituary

Stout, Florence A. ALBANY Florence A. Stout, 100, passed peacefully in the comfort of her daughter's home with her loving family by her side on Sunday, October 24, 2021. Born on January 20, 1921, to Loren Austin and Mary Agnes (Ludington) Leavitt, she was the seventh of eleven children, living her entire life in Albany where she attended Albany Public schools. Florence married the love of her life, Leo W. Stout, a World War II veteran, on July 20, 1951. She became a devoted, stay-at-home mom to daughters, Patricia and Michele "Shelly," while also managing her husband's T.V. repair business. Sweet, kind, loving and gentle describe her personality. She never complained and was a generous person who gave of herself. She had the patience of a saint. Florence enjoyed word searches, jigsaw puzzles, bowling and bingo. Some of her favorite times included summer vacations to Cape Cod with her family and numerous trips throughout the United States as well as a memorable trip to Ireland with her husband. A parishioner of All Saints Catholic Church (formerly St. Margaret Mary's), she was a devout Catholic with a strong and unwavering faith in God, attended daily Mass for years, and led a good life. Her strong devotion often led others to ask her to pray for them. She was also a member of the All Saints Seniors, where she attended many functions. Florence was known to many as an avid Siena basketball fan, attending every home game as a season ticket holder for the past several years. Each January she looked forward to receiving another birthday greeting on the jumbotron. Most of all, she loved taking care of her family. Her grandchildren affectionately called her Nana Flo. Every year, she hosted Thanksgiving dinner and throughout the year made her legendary homemade lasagna for family and friends. Her family was often treated to delicious baked goods, a skill that she acquired from her early years as a cake decorator at Freihofer's Bakery. Everyone knew that her favorite color was yellow. It reminded her of sunshine and happiness which was something she brought to everyone's life. She will continue to shine in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her. Flo is survived by her daughter Patricia A. Stout-Smith and son-in-law Charles B. Smith of Wynantskill; grandchildren, Dr. Michele E. Smith (Shaun Looney) of New York City and Charles L. Smith of Wynantskill; great-granddaughter Emilia Rose Looney of New York City; and granddog Savannah, a golden retriever, who remained faithfully by her side until the end. She is also survived by her brother Donald Leavitt; several nieces and nephews; and honorary family member Suomi "Petey" Amodeo. Florence was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Leo; her daughter Shelly; and her siblings, Kenneth Leavitt, Lillian Viault, Pearl O'Connor, Leonard Leavitt, Blanche Montgomery, Wilbur Leavitt, Helen DePaulo, Esther Della Rocco, and Marion Wilkinson. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Florence's family on Thursday, October 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany. Please only enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot doorway, and unvaccinated individuals must wear a mask and practice social distancing. Funeral services on Friday, October 29, at 9 a.m. in All Saints Catholic Church, Albany, where her funeral Mass will be celebrated. Masks are required. The Rite of Committal will be held in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Albany. Pat,
From my family to yours; our deepest sympathies. Your mom had a full life...I remember you telling me how active she was in her 90's. We should hope for such.
While it's sad to say goodbye...the fondness of memories is why those we love live in our hearts forever.
You and your family will be in mine's prayers and thoughts.

God Bless
