Francis Dorsey Obituary

Dorsey, Francis E. SARATOGA SPRINGS Francis E. Dorsey, 82, passed away on November 8, 2013 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born September 8, 1931 in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of Francis E. Dorsey Sr. and Katherine Dorsey. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elizabeth (Koval) Dorsey; his brother, Dr. James B. Dorsey; his four children, Beth O'Connor (husband Bill predeceased), Stephen Dorsey (Susan), Frank Dorsey (Karen), and Matt Dorsey (partner Sarah Vanburen); and his eight grandchildren, Jack O'Connor, Jim O'Connor, Meghan Dorsey, Mark Dorsey, Michael Dorsey, Alec Dorsey, Kaylyn Dorsey, and Grace Dorsey. Frank was an attorney in Saratoga Springs for more than 50 years, first practicing with his father, Francis E. Dorsey Sr., and later with his sons, Stephen and Matt. He was an assistant county attorney for 39 years, ably defending the rights of children in Saratoga County Family Court. Frank served as Saratoga Springs city attorney after the passing of his father, who had held the post for 28 years. He also previously served as counsel to the Saratoga Springs Housing Authority. Frank was very involved in his community and was a member and past president of the Saratoga Springs Rotary Club. His membership with the Saratoga Springs Rotary Club spanned 54 years, and he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow for his dedication and commitment to the Rotary motto "Service Above Self." Frank also was a past member of the Saratoga Reading Rooms, the Saratoga Golf and Polo Club, the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Club, and the Saratoga County Bar Association. In his leisure time, Frank loved to play golf, visit the Saratoga Race Course, and spend time with his family, especially with his wife and his wonderful pug, Winston. He often said that the smartest thing he ever did was to marry the love of his life Elizabeth Dorsey whom he knew since they graduated Saratoga Springs High School together in 1949. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, November, 11 2013 at Burke & Sons Funeral Home annex, located at 624 N. Broadway with the corner of Rock Street; on-site parking available. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Mary's Church, 167 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue. To Matt, Steve and family members,

Several years back, I met Frank at an annual Law Day Luncheon at the Canfield Casino. We introduced ourselves at the lunch table. Sitting next to one another, we had an opportunity to converse at length. Frank possessed a most engaging personality, and I wondered why we had never crossed paths before in our respect professional careers. Alas, that was our only chance encounter, and I consider that a personal loss.

Please accept my sincere condolences.
