Joan Fitzpatrick Obituary

Fitzpatrick, Joan HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. Joan Fitzpatrick, 91, of Carolina Village in Hendersonville passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016. Born September 3, 1925, in Troy, she was the daughter of the late James and Rose Leonard Lewis. She was also preceded in death by her cherished husband, Walter; her son, Michael; and sister, Marie DeMio (John). Joan was a graduate of St. Augustine's Academy and Lansingburgh High School. Her first position was as a secretary at General Electric Company in Schenectady. It was there she met her future husband, Walter J. Fitzpatrick. They were married in 1946 and settled in California. They later lived all over the country from New Jersey to Hawaii until they settled in Hendersonville in 1986. Joan enjoyed cooking, entertaining and traveling. Her hobbies were bridge, Mahjong and reading, but her greatest pleasure was derived from family and friends. She was an active communicant of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hendersonville. Joan leaves behind her loving family. Her son, Timothy J. Fitzpatrick and his wife, Lucy B. Fitzpatrick; grandson, Conor Barber Fitzpatrick, 27, and granddaughter, Erin Martha Joan Fitzpatrick, 25, all based in San Diego. Erin lives and works in Los Angeles, as a fashion editor. She shared a wonderful trip to upstate New York with her grandmother just before she became ill, accompanied by her great-aunt, Ginny, both of whom she had to run to keep up with! Conor just received his master's degree and works in science research, managing a laboratory at Salk Institute, La Jolla. He will be marrying Amanda Leigh White in June, 2017. Her son, Kevin J. Fitzpatrick; grandson, Nicholas Kevin Fitzpatrick, 28; granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, 27; and granddaughter, Paige Catherine Fitzpatrick, 20. Nicholas lives and works in Atlanta as a real estate agent. Megan is pursuing her master's in elementary education at The University of Central Florida and will be marrying Austin James Pearcy in May, 2017. Paige is pursuing her bachelor of science degree in early childhood education at The University of Florida. Her sister and friend, Virginia (Frederick) McNamee of New York; and many friends, including Rita Van Nostrand, Linda Cooper and Paul and Eileen Harris. The family would like to thank the staff at Carolina Village Medical Center, especially Larry (R.N.), for the care and compassion provided to Joan. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 29, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hendersonville. I was a good friend of Mike's in Atlanta and was just thinking of him (as I do still often) and I was wondering about how Joan was doing. So very sorry to hear of her passing but so glad she lived a long and active life.
