Marilyn Dumas Obituary

Dumas, Marilyn Jean ALBANY Marilyn Jean Wade Dumas, of Colonie, passed peacefully Friday, June 17, 2022. A lifetime resident with deep family connections to the Capital District, her mother, Elsie, was a member of the Quay family of the Helderberg Hilltowns and her father, Benjamin Wade, a son of a longtime Albany family. A 1954 graduate of Roessleville High School and Albany Business School, Jean had fond memories of her classmates, attending many of her class reunions. Her career as an administrative assistant and bookkeeper spanned six decades, culminating well beyond typical retirement. She spent the last 20 years of her career as a part-time office clerk with the Town of Colonie Highway Department and Latham Water District. Jean held deep faith in God and was a longtime member of Roessleville Presbyterian Church. Jean enjoyed writing poems and was very proud of one in particular that gained her Special Mention and a merit certificate in a poetry contest. She was always resourceful and creative with a smart eye for fashion and color and enjoyed mixing and matching her many outfits, accessories and purses. Through the years, she crocheted and knitted many items including, blankets, wraps and scarfs; generously shared her knowledge and skills of cooking and baking that her family always enjoyed; traveled with local senior groups on many memorable trips, and was on more than a few bowling leagues through the years. She is survived by her children, Kathy Esopi (Augie) of Colonie, Robert Dumas (Rene') of Atlanta, Ga., Darlene Daly (Dan) of Alpharetta, Ga., Stephen Dumas (Rodger Thomas) of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Tim Dumas (Rich Moffit) of Albany; grandchildren, Danielle Allegretti (Peter), Sarah Emmert (Myles), and Caroline Hisey (Ben); great-grandchildren, Ansley Emmert, Emerson Allegretti, Brody Emmert (with the angels) and Tate Emmert; and sisters, Judy Wolfstich (Philip "Bing") of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ann Quaqlieri of Las Vegas. She was predeceased by her sisters, Nancy Dorman, and Joan Marie Alix, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family expresses their grateful thanks and appreciation to the remarkably caring and attentive staff at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center and Elderwood Village at Colonie. Also, a special thank you to staff and friends at Hearthstone Village who watched out for Jean in her later years. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jean's family on Wednesday, June 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany. Dear Judy, I read in Marilyn's obituary that you now live in Phoenix, Arizona. I remember you well - I'm the Mother of Derek and Garth Wright and I believe Bing died in January 2009 as my Bob died Christmas morning 2008. Bing's was the 1st viewing that I had gone to after Bob died and I was mourning the death of both with a heavy heart. I do not recall meeting Marilyn, but I'm sure she was there for support. We enjoyed camping with you and your families at Thompson Lake. I have a picture of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip that I took in Canada where we had been camping with Marie and Bob. It was a real close-up picture of them as security was not a big concern at that time. You may or may not recall that there were 4 Bob's in our little group camping together. Fond memories. Sending condolences to you and your family from the Wright's. Take care, I care.
