Marion Jones Obituary

Jones, Marion
ESPERANCE - Marion Winning Jones, 95, of Esperance, N.Y., passed away March 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Marion was born in Mineola, Long Island, the daughter of Marion (Mitchell) and James Ostrum Trank. She graduated from Lansingburg High School class of 1947, and, in 1948, married Maynard L. Jones of Lansingburg, while he was attending SUNY Cobleskill after serving in WWII. After graduating from high school, Marion worked in a bank in Troy for a short time, and later became a homemaker to her growing family. They lived in Cobleskill and, later, the village of Schoharie, until 1951, when they moved to their new home in Esperance. Marion was active in several groups, including the Home Bureau; bowling leagues; M&M Club; Administrative Counsel and Pastor Parish Relations Comm. of the Esperance-Sloansville UMC; Esperance Historical Society, where she served as the first vice president; and the Duanesburg Senior Citizens. She enjoyed her summers at the family camp at Dyken Pond, where she was an excellent fisherman. Marion was a noted baker and cook, and her recipe book she created is cherished by her family. Marion was skilled in many areas, including doing minor home renovations and building a playhouse for her children. She was a voracious reader and was a talented artist in knitting, crocheting, ceramics, decoupage, tole painting and, for a time, had her own candle business in the village of Esperance. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Maynard; and her sister, Lexi Gillis.
She is survived by three daughters and a son, Susan (Terry) Williams, of St. Louis, Mo., Beverly (Lawrence) Schilling, of Albany, N.Y., Priscilla (Armando) Gonzalez, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Kenneth, of Esperance, N.Y.; grandchildren, Patricia, Victoria, Mark, Lisa, Michelle, Angela, Jenny, Sandi, Emily, Kelsey, Jessica, and Kylie; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Audrey Jones, of Bennington, Vt.; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Jones, of Schenectady; along with cousins; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the Schoharie County aides, especially Connie from Meals on Wheels and private duty aide, Jody, as well as the many support staff from Hospice who cared for Mom during her final journey.
Services will be held on Wednesday, March 20, at the Esperance-Sloansville UMC, 175 Main St. (Route 20), Esperance, N.Y., with a calling period from 10-11 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00. Burial will be in the Eagle Mills Cemetery in Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marion's memory to the Esperance-Sloansville UMC Memorials and Legacies Comm., P.O. Box 254, Esperance, N.Y. 12066. The Langan Funeral Home of Schoharie and the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home of Cobleskill are assisting the Jones family.
