Millard Campbell Obituary

Campbell, Millard
MELROSE - In Loving Memory of Millard "Pete" Campbell
May 28, 1944 – July 19, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Millard "Pete" Campbell, age 81, of Melrose, N.Y., who departed this life on July 19, 2025, at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of his devoted family.
Born and raised in Melrose, Pete was a proud graduate of Hoosic Valley Central School, a community he would serve with dedication and warmth throughout his life. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Pete's life was defined by kindness, laughter, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family and neighbors.
Pete was predeceased by his loving parents, Cecilia and Millard B. Campbell; his cherished son, Michael J. Campbell; as well as his brothers and sisters, Sylvia Simon, Gary Campbell, Richard Campbell, Marilee Hull, Cheryl Dodd, and Douglas Campbell. Though this loss left a deep mark on his heart, Pete remained a pillar of strength and love for those around him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Constance "Connie" Campbell, who was the love of his life and his greatest partner in all things. He also leaves behind his children, Michele (James) Coover of Stantonsburg, N.C., Cassandra (Scott) Moore of Clifton Park, N.Y., Barbara Sauer of Ballston Spa, N.Y., and Melinda Campbell of Stillwater, N.Y., as well as Bobby Jo (Kerr) VanAlstyne of Clifton Park, N.Y., who was like a daughter to him; each of whom carry his legacy forward with strength and grace.
Pete found immense joy in the time he spent with his grandchildren, Alexandra and Riley Moore, Patrick Campbell, Nicholas Morris, and Bella Campbell; as well as his beloved great-grandchildren. His eyes lit up in their presence, and his laughter echoed most loudly when they were near. Pete is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Pete dedicated much of his life to serving others. He worked for 58 years as a respected custodian and school bus driver at Hoosic Valley Central School District, where he became a familiar and cherished presence in the lives of generations of students. His commitment to the school community extended well beyond his retirement in 2006, as he continued to drive school buses out of a genuine love for the children and families he served.
In addition to his work at the school, Pete served the Town of Schaghticoke and the Town of Valley Falls; and volunteered selflessly as a fireman for both Melrose and Valley Falls Fire Departments. Through his tireless service, he touched countless lives with his gentle spirit and steadfast reliability.
Pete will be remembered not only for his service, but for his radiant smile, his ready sense of humor, and his extraordinary heart. Whether sharing a quiet cup of coffee, helping a neighbor, or offering a kind word, Pete made the world a better place simply by being in it.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours to celebrate Pete's life at Chase-Smith Funeral Home in Schaghticoke, N.Y., on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All are welcome to share in stories, love, and remembrance of a man who gave so much to so many. A private Burial for the family will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Though he is no longer with us, Pete's spirit will live on in the lives he touched, the love he gave, and the memories we will forever cherish.

I dont know how to tell my kids about this. They will be devastated. Pete is one of the bests. He certainly loved what he did, and you can tell. He loved driving bus and he loved those kiddos. You couldn't help but smile and be in a good mood when you talked to him because he was always so upbeat and his smile was contagious. We are going to miss him so very much. Deepest condolences to his family.
