Robert Yoder Obituary

NISKAYUNA Robert A. Yoder, 79, died on Sunday, September 19, 2004 at the Kingsway Arms Nursing Home. Born January 25, 1925 in Mt. Morris, Ill., he was the son of the late Harry and Mary Yoder. Robert served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He married Dorothy Cranston of Schenectady in 1946. In 1950 he entered the U.S. Army, retiring August 1970 as a colonel. His decorations include the Legion of Merit. Robert participated in the defense of Guadalcanal (World War II) and the invasion of Inchon (Korean War). He served as division signal officer of 2nd Infantry Division, Korea in 1967. He also served three tours of duty in Washington, DC including service on the Army general staff and the executive office of the President. Colonel Yoder was a graduate of RPI, the University of Michigan, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, U.S. Army War College and SUNY Albany. He was a professor of mathematics at H.V.C.C. for 12 years after retiring from the Army. Robert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Yoder of Niskayuna; his two sons, Dr. James Yoder of Atlanta, Ga. and Dr. Robert C. Yoder of Niskayuna. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Diane Emmons Yoder and two grandchildren, Rachael and Harrison all of Niskayuna. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 21 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ellis Hospital Foundation, Inc., 1101 Nott Street, Schenectady, NY 12308-2489 in memory of Robert A. Yoder.
