Sheila Gilfeather Obituary

Gilfeather, Sheila
CATSKILL - Sheila B. Gilfeather, age 75, of Catskill, died May 27, 2024, at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Sheila was born July 28, 1948, in Catskill, the daughter of the late James and Gloria (Sheil) Buckley. Sheila was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School; St. Peter's Hospital School of Nursing; and received her master's degree from Boston College. She was one of the first nurse practitioners in N.Y.S. Upon graduating, she worked at Beth Israel in Boston, then came home to Catskill, where she was an employee of Greene County Family Planning, prior to her retirement. Sheila was predeceased by her husband, Michael J. Gilfeather, on December 7, 2018.
Sheila was a devoted mother, leaving behind her three children, Meaghan (Gilfeather) Montegari, Deirdre Gilfeather and Michael (M.J.) Gilfeather; a son-in-law, David Montegari; four grandchildren, Declan, Liam, Seamus and Maeve Montegari; and many beloved cousins.
Sheila will forever be remembered as a beacon of hope and compassion. Her selflessness and dedication to helping others, even in the face of adversity, serves as an inspiration to us all. Though hindered by the relentless impact of Multiple Sclerosis, she never let her spirit waver. With courage and determination, Sheila continued to inspire those around her with strength and resilience, always with a smile on her face.
Relatives and friends may call 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Funeral services will be held 8-9 a.m. on Monday, from the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Knock Shrine, Route 145, East Durham. Interment will be at St. Patick's Cemetery, in Catskill.

I knew, loved and valued Sheila as a friend and fellow nurse practitioner. The day she came to me to be hired I knew good things would follow. She was skilled, professional and compassionate. I know her struggle with MS was long and spirited, as she was. My deepest condolences to Meaghan, Dierdre and MJ as you remember all the good days. It was your grandmother, Gloria Buckley, who hired me.
