Thomas Seery Obituary

Seery, Thomas J.
CLIFTON PARK - Thomas J. Seery, 81, died peacefully at home on Thursday, January 4, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Thomas was born on April 10, 1942, in Syracuse, N.Y., to the late Thomas Matthew and Josephine Gardner Seery, and grew up in Albany.
He attended the Vincentian Institute, graduating in 1960, and began his service in the United States Air Force until 1964. He then graduated from Ball State University and began a 35-year career at the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.
He retired in 1995 as Executive Deputy Commissioner, and followed that with positions in the private sector. After starting his own consulting firm, he finally retired earlier this year.
He married Eileen (Rybak) Seery, on August 20, 1966, celebrating 57 years of marriage. Together they had three children. Tom will be remembered for his love of travel, taking many trips with family, friends and his grandchildren.
Tom had a true green thumb and loved gardening. He spent many hours playing golf, reading and was a true history buff. Tom was very civic minded and was instrumental in the establishment of the Shenendehowa Free Library, serving as its first president. In addition, he formed the Clifton Gardens Park Association. Tom served as chairman of the Clifton Park Planning Board and was the first chairman of the Clifton Park Water Authority.
Tom was predeceased by his parents and sister, Patricia Fuerst; and is survived by his loving wife, Eileen; his three daughters, Laura (Ken) Constable, Adriane (Paul) Wilders and Sara DiNallo; his eight grandchildren, Leah and Nathan Constable, Cameryn, Jameson, Charlie and Emma Wilders, and Sam and Avery DiNallo; his sister, Catherine Briggs; lifelong friends, Peter and Maureen Lanahan; and a host of family, nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank special family and friends, including Robert and Angie Rybak, and the numerous doctors and nurses at NYOH and Community Hospice for their support through this journey.
Friends and family are invited to call at St. Edward the Confessor, 569 Clifton Park Center Road, Clifton Park, on Sunday, January 7, 2024, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Tom also at St. Edward's on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., with interment taking place in Jonesville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Tom's memory to the Tina A. Dailey Memorial Scholarship, made payable to The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region, CFGCR, 2 Tower Place, Albany, NY, 12203.
