Walter Homicz Obituary

Homicz,
Walter S. Jr.
CATSKILL - Walter S. Homicz Jr., 81, resident of the Eliot in Catskill, passed away at Columbia Memorial Hospital, on February 12, 2025. Walter was the eldest son of Isabelle Nolan Homicz and Walter S. Homicz Sr. Walter grew up in the Capital District with his two brothers, Bruce J. Homicz (Michelle), John J. Homicz (Barbra); and sister, Linda Homicz Crowley (William).
Walter graduated from St. Joseph's Academy, where he played basketball and baseball. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and finished his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He was stationed at Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire and Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska from 1964 to 1968. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Walter passed the New York State exam and started working at the Department of Motor Vehicles, where he met the mother of his two daughters, Karen A. (Seers) Homicz. Walter would eventually retire in 2006, after almost 40 years of service.
Walter is survived by his two loving daughters, Stacey A. Homicz and Kelly E. Adsit (David). Walter's goal in life was making sure his daughters' futures were taken care of. Walter's greatest joy was being the best Papi to his only granddaughter, Serena G. Adsit. They shared a love of baseball and enjoyed discussing their bird teams (Cardinals and Blue Jays). Walt was also a kind uncle to his many nieces and nephews, and a good friend.
Walter had an unbelievable knowledge of sports trivia. He enjoyed watching the Fighting Irish, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Jets, and Rangers. He loved attending family gatherings and parties. He especially enjoyed his sister's BBQs and Christmas Eve parties, Thanksgiving and poker games at Bob's, Serena's birthday parties, attending Albany's St. Patrick's Day parades with his brother and wife, going to the lake with his siblings and spouses and Patsy, and walking at the Crossings with his friend, Kim.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Walter's family, on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. Funeral services will follow at 11, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 4 Atrium Dr. #100, Albany, N.Y. 12205, www.heart.org

Walter was my classmate at SJA '62. He was a gentle person, but he played a tough game on the basketball court. He and I would talk on the phone about our love for baseball. He had a great memory for places and dates, especially about sports. Walter was a gentleman and my friend. RIP my friend.

I was very sorry to learn of Walter's passing. He and I were classmates at St. Joseph's and kept in touch over all the years, good conversations about the "old days" and the good music. My condolences to all his family at this sad time.
