It is interesting that this email came in this morning. I do think of Harry far more often than I would have realized 6 years ago. 6 years have gone by quickly. I think Harry will not soon be forgotten by me.

Very saddened to read of Harrys death some years ago. I had lost touch following my own parents last illnesses. They were friends of Harrys in London at medical school or immediately after, and Harry was my godfather. Birthdays and Christmas when I was growing up were always marked by a card containing a nice present from him. He was a a terrific remote godfather and I always regretted we were not physically closer. I remember a terrific summer visiting him in Rochester, and remember peter well, and those beautiful Briard dogs. Rest in peace Harry, you are much missed.

Hi Dr. Bechtel- Nice to read your tribute to Harry . I recall you coming out to his home on Carter Road, along with other residents and medical students. Harry was quite a character in a good way. I finished my doctorate at the U of R and after moving arouind a bit in the mid 1990s, settled back in Rochester. Still friends of Harry's secretary Belinda, and her family. Hope all is well with you and your family.

I have just learned of Dr. Griffiths' death
He was my teacher and mentor at Univ. of Rochester when I was a young resident .
As the director of residency training, He went out of his way to help and guide all of us.
I still have a signed copy of his book:
BASIC BONE RADIOLOGY and use it regularly in my work.
I am honored to have been his student and friend.

A Mass will be said to honor Harry's life and contributions to so many people. It will be held on Sunday, January 10 (His birthday is January 6) at 5 PM at St. Joseph's Church in Penfield, NY. The church is about 6 miles from where Harry lived in Fairport, at his beloved Griffiths Acres. Many of you cannot attend, so please say a prayer, light a candle or honor his life in your own house of worship in any way you see fitting. He truly was a gift to his family, colleagues, students and friends.

It saddens me to learn of Harry's death. He was a wonderful professor at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. He was always friendly to the students in the Department of Radiology. His invitations to his farm in the suburbs for social events were always appreciated.

I lived with Harry with his three dogs when I was a graduate student at the University of Rochester til 1985. He was generous, witty devoted to teaching medical students, and threw great parties- with lamb, great wine and a variety of scotch whiskeys. I met Shelagh and Ann, and Harry's mum, Alice who lived in the cottage behind the house for several years before he moved to Toronto and Minneapolis. He was one of a kind for sure, had the best stories to tell, and we lost touch over the last two years. If anyone wants to contact me, [email protected]

This is such sad news. I have the very fondest memories of our friendship at Guy's Hospital Medical School, London and later, until Harry left for the States in 1969. He overflowed with generosity of spirit. An honour to have known him. Condolences to sister Shelagh, whom I also remember well.

We will remember his generosity, joy of life and good wine, his crazy dog, Rocky, bike riding the beach roads and his lamb with mint sauce. Our prayers are with his family and that they know he made a difference. Jane and Doug Harper

We were saddened to hear that we had lost Dr Harry, as he was respected and well liked in our neighborhood. We would often see him at neighborhood functions, or just walking his dog Rocky. A great, selfless guy who will be sorely missed.
