James Swick Obituary

SWICK James H. "Jim" Swick, age 79, of Alachua, FL, passed away on Monday May 18, 2009 at Oak Hammock in Gainesville, FL. He was born in Bainbridge, GA. and graduated from Thomasville High School, and attended Auburn University. He served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant within the Strategic Air Command as an Air Policeman. He served as the Director for the First National Bank in Gainesville and for thirty years as the Director of the First National Bank in Alachua, FL. He worked as the Vice President, then for ten years as the President of the Copeland Sausage Company in Alachua, until the sale of the business to Green Giant where he continued as a consultant. He also was a realtor, farmer, rancher, and owner of the Swick Farm Center in High Springs. He was a member of the Fellowship Church in between High Springs and Alachua. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Alachua, FL., and the Lion's Club in Alachua. He served as the President of the Florida Meat Packers Association, was a Rotarian and life member of the Florida Sheriff's Boys ranch. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He and his wife Quinnell loved to travel. He was an outdoorsman and was known for his love for people. He was preceded in death by his sister Martha Alday, and is survived by his wife Quinnell Herndon Swick, a daughter Carol (Waylan) Willis of Alachua, his sons Tibbs (Vicki) Swick and Mark (Dralynn) Swick of High Springs and Jimmy (Sherry) Swick of Alachua, his sister Sarah Herring Lipham, 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Fellowship Church 16916 NW US Highway 441 High Springs, FL. on Thursday May 21, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Newnansville Cemetery in Alachua. I remember when I was secretary at the church how kind Jim was to me and Charlie. I remember his smile & the hug he always gave me. He was always encouraging me. Charlie sends his prayers and love to you also you are always in our hearts and prayers. He will be missed.

My heart goes out to the entire family. I have know and loved all of you my whole life. We sat behind you in church 1st UMC as your children and mine grew up. I always thought of Jim as kind of a big brother. He was always so kind and loving to me as he watched me grow up inthose early days of my life. My memories of Mr Swick go back to 1958 when my Dad passed away. My Mom(Bertha Hollingsworth) worked at Copeland Sausage Co with Mr Swick. He was so very kind and helpful to us during that time. The Swick family have always been very special to us and you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
