Like some others, I didn't know about Brian's passing until several years after the fact and only saw this page today thanks to Jim Blalock's post. Like Ann and Peggy (and I'm sure Laura) I have fond memories of playing in a quintet with him, especially when we were invited to the Fischoff Competition. Brian was a kind and fascinating person. May he rest in peace.

I just found out today. He was one of the greatest people I ever knew. Changed my outlook on the world quite a bit. I keep plants all over the house today because of him. I don't love opera, but can enjoy it because of him. He was the first one I knew who made reeds...really well. Haggin Hall, Kirwin Tower, Vegetable House, playing UK Orch, Lex Phil, a joint recital and many many other concerts, roommates, friends...all day I've been thinking about how much effect he had on me.

Brian was such a good friend and pal to me. I have missed him so much and didn't know of his passing. Brian made bread.....this wonderful, delicious, pumpernickel bread. We laughed together, played music together, giggled together. I'll miss you Brian. All my love. Peggy.

Hey Buddy, still thinking about you a great deal during the day. I'm really going to frame that drawing of you. Promise. Valkerie kitty sleeps in the bed with me now. How weird is that? I miss you. Today is the fifth month since you died. The savings plan for moving to Portland is on track. Still haven't lost any weight. Still trying to get my painting skills started. Still missing you...sometimes the pain racks me into a ball in the corner and I just have to wait for it to pass. I try to stay happy, remembering that you're still alive, just out of the body. I love you. You're not someone that people can just "get over" so easily. In fact, you're still the only man I've ever known who endears people to you in less than two exposures. People really love you because you cared. You centered all conversation about them. I will always be honored to be your One. Still broken. Still broken-hearted. Guess I always will be. Wish I could talk with you...just once more. I will never forget you. No one who knew you will. I love you, Brian Moses. Step-dad's Will is still in probate. Afterward, I'm going through with the name change back to O'Brian. Merréll Barry O'Brian. Every time I see the name, I'll think of you as well.

Oh, Brian- I can't believe you're gone. I just found out tonight. Our Lexington Wind Quintet was one of the best experiences of my life. I'll always remember staying up with you all night making reeds. Ed will always remember you as one of the most gifted high school students he's ever had.
The world is much poorer without you.

Brian and I had a great time playing clarinet-oboe and clarinet-English horn duets in Lexington. As one might expect, the literature for these duets is limited, and rightly so. But it didn't stop us from trying, and occasionally sharing a game of chess afterward. I will remember the good times.

A large number of us who went through the UK Math Department as grad students wouldn't have coped nearly as well without Brian's help. I am thankful for the presence he was in our lives and am mourning his passing.

Just to inform all, I have a site on flickr.com/merrellobrian with an ever increasing number of photos of Brian, his cat, his origami and more. All are welcome. I'm working on a Brian Moses website but, I'm not in that place yet where I can do it. Brian has a wonderful family and they've been so kind to me. I thank the Moses family with heartfelt sincerity.

Brian, I know you are in a better place. I missed you when you left for Florida. I am so glad you felt deep, deep love. Rest, completely in peace.

I knew Brian for over 20 years. He was a dedicated friend and always willing to help others. I remember so many fun times and so much laughter including our years in "Trio Doble!" I have tried to find him these last few years and am very sorry that I didn't locate him in time.

I was Brian's partner and constant companion for the last four years of his life, and his caregiver for his last three months. I never left his side, except for work, which I missed plenty of, and then I made sure he was never alone in the hospital. Jenny and Laurie were with him when I couldn't be. He died holding my hand at 2:10am on Thursday, October 8th in Hospice. We fought life's battles together every step, every single day. We were in all things, partners.
Words can't even begin to express how deeply I miss him. What I want everyone to know is that Brian Moses was a HAPPY, Full of life, energetic man. He had tons of friends and family in Jacksonville. He was a strong, powerful influence on his job and community. Brian had a great life and we loved each other without regret or remorse or apology to anyone.

The world has lost a wonderful talent and source of beauty in the passing of Brian Moses. It was my distinct honor and privilege to have worked with him in my early years as a high school band director. There is little doubt in my mind that I have never worked with a more talented and dedicated student musician. In the case of Brian I learned more than I taught. I will never forget his invitation to a recital at UK after I had left Whitley County and was teaching in Ohio. It was a night that I will never forget as I listened to the mastery of his art. I was honored that he wanted me to be there.
To his family and friends my deepest sympathy.

My prayers and thought go out to the family. I had lost touch with Brian and did not know where he was. I just remember being so proud of him for his musical accomplishments. And if I had any part in that, I am very happy for that.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Brian's passing. I first met Brian in 7th grade. We'd sit in the back of Mr. Hill's history class pretending we had a pet basset hound with us....pretty silly. We had lots of laughs and good times.

Brian was such an inspriration to me. His love for music and the Arts always made me want to try harder. The last time I heard from him it was to talk about a play I had written about opera star Grace Moore. Brian will be missed and his influence will continue to inspire me.
