I received Gerald Wagner's obituary from my brother, Bob, who still lives in Olean, NY. When we were young, my father, Bill Bernard, would take our family to visit George and Florence Wagner on the Crooked Creek farm each summer. I can remember seeing the rattlers when a hay stack would be tipped over in the field. The Wagner boys always showed around the farm.
In his youth my father was a friend of George. Both of them were born in 1886 and my father married Stella Baker of Holliday in 1905. Her parents were George and Sally (Doane) Baker. I have tried to trace back their families another generation but have not been sucessful. I use Ancestry.com as well as the LDS Family History Library for research. Is there any relationship between the Hotchkiss family and the Baker family ? Maybe Kathren or Leonard would recall. Any information would be appreciated. My Email address is [email protected].
Another question. Is any of the Wagner family still living on the Crooked Creek Farm ? When I talked with my brother, Bob, neither of us believe we could find the farm at this time.
I am Bill Bernard, Jr., age 85, living in retirement at 3910 Lares Way, Salt Lake City, Utah. My career was with Hercules Aerospace, 38 years. Hercules built the propulsion for the Navy Submarine missiles. We also built the third stage Minuteman motor for the Air Force, and many smaller rockets for the Army. I also built the first U.S. Carbon Fiber Production Plant here in Salt Lake City.

When thinking of Pastor Wagner I like to remember his genuine down to earth qualities. When working on the addition to the Black Creek church we listened to a boxing match in which most of the men were interested. He took me deer hunting with him which I thought was very cool but unusal for a pastor. He also promoted the church camping trips to Allegheny State Park. Pastor Gerald Wagner was used by God to leave a lasting impact on my life for which I am eternally grateful.

May God bless you at this time. God sent Pastor Gerald into my life at the time of my parents death and he was like a father to me in many ways as God's reflection of His Son. He is now with his Heavenly Father. God bless you all. My love to you all.

Jan & family, So sorry to hear of your father's passing. I was a childhood friend of Jan's in Pavilion, NY. Although it was many years ago, I have fond memories of our friendship and spending time @ the Wagner's house. Your father & mother were the nicest people. Very hospitable. May God bless you & yours at this difficult time.

Dear Joie and Family, How sad I am for the sorrow you are sharing today. How wonderful to know Pastor is now with the Lord and so blessed. I am recalling the many memories during our years of sharing God's Ministry in Dexter Baptist. May God's comfort and hand guide you through the days, months and years ahead. Know my heart and prayers are with you all but especially with you Joie! I know Jesus will give you every comfort and peace along the road before you. I know you will keep your eyes on HIM and trust HIM every day! Is. 41:10.13

We both will be eternally grateful for this Wonderful Godly Man who gave us a firm Christian foundation .. teaching us by his example as young believers. We needed a man like him as young parents with small children to point us in the right direction ... oh how thankful we are. Words can not express our thoughts.
