Alice R. Heintzelman

Alice R. Heintzelman, 95, formerly of Lehighton, died May 18, 2024, at Maple Shade Meadows in Nesquehoning.

Born in Palmerton, Alice was the youngest daughter of the late Claude J. and Jennie M. (Zimmerman) Heintzelman.

Alice resided in Lehighton in the same house for 86 years. She began working at the age of 14 at the G.C. Murphy Store during WW II. After graduating from Lehighton High School in 1947, Alice was employed as a bookkeeper at Peerless Mills (Drumheller's Mill) in Lehighton for the Penn Northeast Conference of the United Church of Christ in Palmerton, and finally for Blue Ridge Pressure Casting in Lehighton, retiring in 1991.

Alice was a loyal member of Zion UCC, Lehighton, where she sang in the church choir and volunteered as a church bookkeeper. She was a skillful seamstress and for many years made the costumes for the Zion Opera Workshop productions. She also was an accomplished quilter with the church's Daughters of Zion quilting group, and a renowned pie baker.

Alice is survived by six nieces and nephews, 10 great-nieces and great-nephews, and 10 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and three sisters, Helen Stemler, Kathryn Noll, and Louise Heintzelman.

Service: A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23 at Zion UCC, Second and Iron streets, Lehighton, with the Rev. Dean Frey officiating. A calling will precede the service from 10:30-11 a.m. in the church. The committal will be private.
