Debra Pohlod Obituary

Debra Elizabeth Pohlod

Debra Elizabeth Pohlod, 65, of Seminole, Florida, and Summit Hill, Pennsylvania, passed into eternal peace on June 9, 2023, in her family home from a sudden illness. Debra was the daughter of the late Robert and Margaret Pohlod.

During her childhood, she enjoyed activities with family neighbors, including the Colancecco, Solomon, Paton and Reehl families.

She was a member of the local Girl Scout troop.

She was a 1975 graduate of Panther Valley High School and a 1979 graduate of Kutztown University. She expressed fond memories of her high school and college years.

Speech Pathology was her career for 40 years. Her first year was serving students in Calvert County, Maryland. She spent the next years at Orange Grove Elementary School, Madeira Beach Elementary School, and Madeira Beach Fundamental School. She was respected by staff and students at these schools and developed lifelong friendships. She retired in August of 2021.

Her favorite activities were spending time with her PA and FL family and friends, crocheting, gardening, playing Mahjong, baking cookies and watching game shows. However, her most favorite times were the Memorial Day celebration, Christmas Day and The Traditional Family Spaghetti Dinner in Pennsylvania.

Cooper and Buster were her beloved pet companions. She enjoyed spoiling and pampering them and treated them each as members of her family.

Surviving are her sister, Dorothy Pohlod of St. Leonard, MD; a brother, Robert Pohlod, and his wife, Celia, and niece, Emmali Echevarria, of Andreas; a sister, Michele Scott, and her husband, Thomas, and goddaughters and nieces, Teresa and Hannah, of Bluemont, VA; cousins, Elwood and Margie Black, Richard and Amy Black, Thomas and Cathy Domarecki, Peggy and Richard Fernandez, Ronnie and Jenny Hood, Crystal and the late David Hood, Geri and Russell King, Charles and Nancy Whitehead, and all their extended families; family friends, Sheryl and Carol Weston and Sue and David Herera and family; her gardening friend and neighbor, Pat Williams; and her FL family, Sue and Thomas Brewer, goddaughter, the late Chelsea Brewer, and goddaughter, Candace Shultz, and her husband, Alex, and family.

Memorial service 1 p.m. Friday, June 16, Thomas J. Parambo Funeral Home, 54 W. Fell St., Summit Hill, with the Rev. Ruth Ann Christopher officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. Call noon-1 p.m. Friday. Online condolences may be shared at www.parambofh.com.

Miss Pohlod was my speech teacher from 2005 to 2009. To say she touched my life would be an understatement. She was one of the kindest people I have ever known. I can´t explain in words how incredible this woman was and how much she cared for her students, she was truly an angel here on earth. An amazing educator who went above and beyond to show her students love. Thank you Miss Pohlod for making school a happy place for me. I will always cherish her memory and remember her sweet soul. I´m so happy Miss Pohlod is reunited with her beautiful dog Cooper, whom she loved very much.

Debbie,
I was so sorry to hear of your passing. Although I hadn’t seen you since you were a child, I remember pushing you in your stroller and babysitting for you and Dorothy. Time has a way of getting away from us. May you Rest In Peace.

I knew Debbie since we were little kids. Playing house on each others porches, curling swim towels on our heads as hair. Debbie, Bonnie and I grew up together in Summit Hill, there are so so many memories we shared. Even though we grew up and went our separate ways when we saw each otpher it was like we never left. I will miss talking to her on her porch Memorial Day. I know she is in a better place my memories are something I will hold of her in my heart.
