Delano Swartz Obituary
Delano R. Swartz, 88, of Fireline Road, Palmerton, Lower Towamensing Township, died peacefully on Sunday morning, Feb. 12, 2023, in his home. He was the husband of Linda J. (Gehm) Swartz since Oct. 5, 1968.
He was employed by the former New Jersey Zinc Co., Palmerton, as a furnace and crane operator for many years before retiring in 1994.
Born in Bowmanstown, he was a son of the late Albert and Esther (Snyder) Swartz.
He was a member of Faith Alive United Methodist Church, Palmerton.
Delano was a life member of Bowmanstown Rod and Gun Club, the Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company and the North American Hunting Club and a former member of the Bowmanstown-Parryville Lions Club.
He served as a 45-year PA State Forest Fire Warden.
A Marine Corps veteran of Korea, he served our country with honor in the 1st Marine Land Mine/Demolition Division, achieving the rank of Pfc.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two daughters, Kimberly, wife of Corey Serfass of Lehighton, and Kristin Swartz, wife of Lisa Leiby of Palmerton; a son Troy, and his wife, Taryn (Balliet) Swartz of Dillsburg, York County; four grandchildren, Jason, and his fiancée, Ivan, Alyssa, wife of Morgon, Cadet Kyle Swartz of West Point, N.Y., and Jayden; a sister, Doris Swolensky of Palmerton; a brother Blaine of Canadensis, Monroe County; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by three brothers, Forest, Laird and Glenn.
Service: Memorial service 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, Faith Alive United Methodist Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton. Interment with military honors, Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Fireline Rd., Bowmanstown. Call noon-1 p.m. Monday in the church. Arrangements, Campton Funeral Home, Palmerton. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the memorial fund of the church, P.O. 177, 678 Pine St., Palmerton, PA 18071, the Miller-Keystone Blood Center, 1465 Valley Center Parkway, Bethlehem, PA 18017-226, or The Gary Sinise Foundation, P.O.
