Dennis Leyer Obituary

Dennis J. Leyer, 66, of Penn Forest Township, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, in his home.
He was an auto mechanic in the Allentown area for many years.
Born in Palmerton, he was a son of Hattie (Smith) Leyer of Lehighton and the late Joseph Leyer.
He was a 1963 graduate of Lehighton Area High School, where he was a standout athlete on the football and track and field teams. He later graduated from San Diego State University.
Leyer was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, having served from 1966-73 as an aircraft mechanic.
He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Lehighton, NHRA Drag Racing and the National Rifle Association.
The deceased was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Tammy, wife of Michael Ewer of Lehighton, and Denise of San Jose, Calif.; a sister Carol, wife of Douglas Behler of Lehighton; four grandchildren, Camille and Cedric Miller and Saige and Emily Ewer; a nephew, Ryan Behler; and a niece, Lori Lavan.
Service: Private funeral service at convenience of family. Arrangements by Schaeffer Funeral Home, Third and Alum streets, Lehighton. Online condolences may be made at www.schaefferfunerals.com. Contributions in his name may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 222 Church St., Lehighton, Pa. 18235, or the SPCA of Pa., 350 E. Erie Ave., Philadelphia, Pa. 19134.
