Francis M. Vitek

Francis M. Vitek, 82, of Barnesville, passed away on Sunday, July, 16, 2023, at St. Luke's Hospital Miners Hospital, Coaldale.

Born in Coaldale on July 30, 1940, he was a son of the late Anna (Guy) and Stephen Vitek.

A 1958 graduate of Lansford High School, Francis voluntarily enlisted and served honorably in the United States Navy for 14 years as a Seabee.

He was a carpenter by trade working for the 257 team and enjoyed woodworking, gardening, traveling with his wife, the shore, surf fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored.

He was a member of St. Richards R.C.C., Barnesville.

Surviving are his wife, Dolores (Koreisl) Vitek; two sons, Stephen Vitek and his wife, Angie, of Florida, and Brian Valentine and his wife, Lisa, of Drums; five daughters, Anna Maria Vitek of New York, Joanne Vitek of Columbia, Beth Ann Valentine of Tamaqua, Sharyn Martin of Louisiana, and Kathy Porvaznik her husband, Joseph, of Lake Hauto; brother, Joseph Vitek of Maryland, and John of Thailand; grandchildren, Seth, Jillian, Dylan, Anthony, Candice, Michael, Brian, Nicholas, Joseph, Jorge, Korina, Stephanie and Natalie; great-grandchildren, Blake, Allie, Hannah, Joseph, Bentley, Owen, Aubrey, Nova Lee, Embree, Romero, Jarrod, Joseph and Bryce; and his furry baby, Missy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Valentine; grandson, Joseph Porvaznik; and brother, Bernard Vitek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27 at St. Richard's R.C.C. Church, Barnesville with the Rev. Robert Finlan officiating. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua. Burial with military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the funeral home.

We just found out about Frank's passing after moving back home. Charlie loved Frank's stories and I enjoyed chatting with you on the porch. I know Frank will not be suffering any more, he's up in heaven sharing his stories. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
