Joseph J. Kanas Jr.

Joseph J. Kanas Jr., 86, of Second Avenue, Walnutport, died suddenly on Monday, July 14, 2025, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg Campus, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Carol H. (Miller) Kanas since Nov 5, 1960.

Born in Slatington, he was a son of the late Joseph J. Sr. and Hattie (Reitz) Kanas.

Joseph was employed as a cabinet maker by the former Lehigh Lumber Co., Bethlehem.

He was a 1957 graduate of the Northampton High School.

A master craftsman who specialized in woodworking and antiques, he could build

anything from hand, from carved birds, kitchen cabinets, and even a full-sized sail boat he enjoyed at Leaser Lake Park, New Tripoli. Joseph enjoyed spending time with family, riding bike, helping and advising on projects with friends.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter Jennifer, wife of Tony Bauer of Lehigh Township; and three grandchildren, Eric, Amy and Aaron.

He was also predeceased by daughter, Sherrie A. Smith, who died in 2022.

Service: Funeral service at convenience of family. Arrangements by Campton Funeral Home, Palmerton. Contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Soc., P.O. Box 1640, Hagerstown, MD 21741, or the Carbon Co Animal Shelter, 63 Broad St., Nesquehoning, PA 18240. Online condolences can be offered at www.schislerfuneralhomes.com.

I was so happy to spend some time with Joe Jr. at my brother Tim´s house. He was a very sweet man. He looked just like my favorite late uncle, his father, Joe Sr. May he rest in God´s peaceful, eternal arms . ..... cousin Cindy
