Lewis A. Armbruster Jr.

Lewis A. Armbruster Jr., 68, of Jim Thorpe, passed away on Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, in his home. He was the husband of Joy (Furman) Armbruster for 36 years.

Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late Lewis A. Armbruster Sr. and Doris (Richards) Armbruster.

Lew's working career began as a roofer for the former Louis Laub Roofing, Egypt, and a jail guard at the former Carbon County Jail on Broadway, Jim Thorpe. He retired from the former New England Motor Freight, Mahoning Township, where he worked for many years as a dock worker.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of upper Jim Thorpe, and a lifetime member of the Lehighton Fire Department and the Diligent Fire Company No. 3, Jim Thorpe.

Lew's daily life included breakfast at the East Mauch Chunk Eatery, where he enjoyed socializing with others and teasing the waitresses, and his everyday car rides through town. He especially loved playing hide and seek with his great-granddaughter Paisley.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a sister, Louise, wife of Dave Getz; sons, Gene Strohl, and his wife, Laura, of Harleysville, Mark Strohl, and his wife, Andrea, of Allentown, and Kyle Strohl, and his wife, Christiane, of Lehighton; grandchildren, Dylan White, and his wife, Amy, Tiana Eldridge, and her significant other, Tylor Day, Nevaeh Snyder, Cassidy Snyder, and her fiancé, Jeremy Mooney, and Nekya Strohl, and her significant other, Jack James; and four great-grandchildren.

He was also predeceased by great-aunt, Elizabeth Sittler, and his aunt, Catherine Eade, who both raised him after the loss of his mother.

Visitation: Memorial visitation 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the Lehighton Fire Dept., 132 S. Third St., Lehighton, PA 18235, or the Diligent Fire Co., No.3, 330 Center Ave., Jim Thorpe, PA 18229.
