Richard Merluzzi Obituary

Richard A. Merluzzi Jr.

Richard A. Merluzzi Jr., 68, of West Chester and Hilton Head, S.C., passed away on Oct. 27, 2025.

He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.

Born on Aug. 14, 1957, to the late Richard A. and Lois (Trainer) Merluzzi of Lehighton, Rick graduated from Lehighton Area High School and later earned a BS in Civil Engineering at Penn State University and an MBA in International Finance at Drexel University.

His distinguished career included several leadership and executive positions at Mobil Oil, Edlon, and FMC Corp., culminating in his roles as CEO of Metal Exchange Corporation (MEC) and chair of the Aluminum Extruders Council.

Community involvement was also a priority for Rick, who served as a board member of many institutions and foundations, including Penn State University and United Way. Throughout his professional life, Rick generously shared his expertise and experience mentoring others, thereby earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and developing many close, enduring friendships.

Outside of work, he enjoyed sharing his interests with friends and family, including his abiding love for Penn State football. Living abroad as a young man fostered a passion for travel that led to his visiting 60 countries over the course of his life. But nothing made Rick happier than the time he spent with family. Together with his beloved wife, Kathryn, he proudly watched their sons' many achievements as they grew into happy, accomplished adulthood. They were his greatest joy.

Rick is survived by his lifelong love, Kathryn, and his sons, Richard III, Alexander (Lauren Suarez), and Andrew (Radhika Deshpande). Also surviving are his sister Lynne (Gary) Fedorcha; his brother, Craig (Dorrie) Merluzzi; and sister-in-law, Judy Merluzzi.

He was predeceased by his brother William and his parents.

His memory will also be cherished by his in-laws, Sidney and Frances Gage, George and Ellen Gage Searles, and Irene Gage and Susan Pierce, and several nieces and nephews.

Services: Friends and family are invited to attend Rick's funeral on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, 104 Channing Ave., Malvern, Pa., where the family will also welcome visitors from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be private. The Mauger-Givnish Funeral Home, 24 Monument Ave., Malvern, is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick's memory may be made to the charity he founded: Friends and Family against Prostate Cancer, https://friendsandfamilyagainstprostatecancer.org/

Dear Kathryn

Sandra and I are so sad for your loss. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Rick was a very special friend. We had so many great times together. When he came to our place and watched the Penn State game, probably five or six years ago it’s like we had never not seen each other for years. He will always be remembered as just a genuine, great guy and I will miss him. We will both miss him.

If you ever need anything, please do not hesitate to ask

I had the pleasure of being one of Mr. Merluzzi’s scholars while pursuing higher education at Penn State after graduating from Lehighton High School. Throughout my four years at university, meetings with Mr. Merluzzi helped me realize that someone from a small town could achieve their biggest dreams simply by having one thing: perseverance. His advice and generosity left me with memories I will never forget. My deepest condolences go out to his family.

Rick was a great valued colleague and a valued friend. At FMC we shared much success, great adventures and had mutual respect for each other. Our friendship continued for 25 years after our professional relationship ended. We wish we could be with you to remember and celebrate his wonderful life and smile through the tears as we recall the good times. Farewell our friend.
