Robert Reinhart Obituary

Robert G. Reinhart

Robert George Reinhart, loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather of Palmerton, passed unto eternity on January 13th, 2026 at his home following a bout with cancer. He was 82 years old.

Born at Havre Hospital in Northampton on July 20, 1943 to the late Horace and the late Dorothy (Boyer) Reinhart, he attended some of the area's last one-room-schoolhouses before graduating from Slatington High School in 1961.

A life-long supporter of athletics, he played basketball for Slatington High School. He attended Penn State beginning in 1961 under the Navy ROTC Program, majoring in Chemical Engineering.

On the first day of his classes, he met Constance Grimm, his future wife, proposing to her while brushing her hair, and marrying her on January 18, 1964 at Penn State's Helen Eakin Eisenhower Chapel. Within four years, the newlywed couple settled briefly in Slatington, where they bore their children Cynthia and Robert David in 1964 and 1966, respectively, before settling in Palmerton for the remainder of his years (while remaining loyal Penn State fans to the end).

As a young man he took work at the New Jersey Zinc Company alongside his father before joining Rodale Press, the company wherein he would one day rise to the rank of Director of Management Information Systems. Throughout his career, Robert would travel the country securing deals for the firm, in addition to testifying before Postal Committees on Capitol Hill on his experience in mass media. When away from the office, he spent a great deal of time with family at Lake Harmony and his family hunting cabin in Sullivan County, or playing softball on the Rodale Company team back home.

As young parents, he and Connie took up photography in what would become a lifelong passion they shared. Bob and his wife became locally acclaimed photographers, Bob specializing in landscape photography in addition to still life and macro photography. Over the years he also took up woodworking, becoming a master of fine craftsmanship specializing in pens and fine bowls, in addition to larger furniture, including the kitchen table his family continues to use to this day.

In his retirement years, Bob enjoyed continued time with his family, celebrating family successes and holidays with cookouts and warm family gatherings. Despite the rematch besting him, his first title bout with cancer led to a decisive victory in his favor, awarding him a decade of hearty laughs, home-cooked meals, and glowing memories surrounded by loved ones. As a neighbor and relative, Bob was consistently as gregarious as he was honest, and just as quick to offer help as he was to offer a seat and an ear. To the end, Bob retained the same humor and grit that carried him throughout his eight decades as a loving neighbor and family man.

Robert is survived by his wife, Connie, sister, Candace and husband Don LaBarre, daughter, Cindy and husband Mahlon Kocher, son, Robert and wife Tanya, and grandson, Ben Winn.

He was predeceased by sister, Janice and brother, John.

I worked with Bob at Rodale. He was a mentor, a character, a man of quiet competence, a willing helper, and a wise sage with a wit that cut through everything. All roads led to his desk at one point or another, and I always left with a tip and a smile - even if he was tearing down my revenue projections. What a great guy. I am glad to have known him.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bob and Connie through membership in the Palmerton Camera Club, in May of 2021. Both are very fine friends, for which I am very grateful for making their acquaintance and participating in various activities with the camera club. I remember the warm hospitality at their home. Bob was always pleasant and a good conversationalist at the club meetings. I will surely miss him at the camera club, as I know all the other members will also. My sincere sympathy to Connie and the rest of Bob's family. May God bless you all with his matchless love and comfort.
