Rose Gillespie Obituary

Rose Ellen Gillespie

Our loving mother, Rose Ellen (Gallagher) Gillespie, widow of Harry Gillespie, passed away on March 26, 2023, in her home, where she welcomed all and gave to her family a happy and loving home we cherished throughout her life.

Born in East Mauch Chunk, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Lena (Roos) Gallagher.

She graduated from Mauch Chunk Catholic High in 1943 and from the Misericordia School of Nursing of Philadelphia in 1947, where she was president of her class.

Mom worked in Philadelphia, Palmerton and Allentown hospitals after graduation. She later married Dad and raised eight children.

They were married 56 years before Dad passed in 2005.

Mom's giving nature was visible her whole life - helping neighbors in their time of need, delivering Meals on Wheels for 18 years, baking and giving of her time for the Catholic Daughters of America, Court 911, the Immaculate Conception Women's Club and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Surviving are sons, Harry of Catasauqua, James in Ohio and Patrick, and his wife, Beverly (Howard), and Joseph, both of Jim Thorpe; daughters, Ann Adams in Missouri, Lorraine, wife of Paul Dolinsky of Mahoning Valley, and Rose, wife of Jack Kennedy of Jim Thorpe; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by a son, Dennis Gillespie; brothers, Philip, Joseph, Lawrence and Owen; a son-in-law, James Adams; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara (Rau) Gillespie.

Service: Funeral Mass 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 180 W. Broadway, Jim Thorpe, with the Rev. Ronald Minner officiating. So very sorry to hear of Rose´s passing. I grew up on the hill and hung out on Gillespie's corner many times. Rose was always so kind to all of us kids. Took my children trick or treating there and was welcomed in with open arms. My thoughts and prayers are with her entire family. May she Rest In Peace.

Throughout the years, I thought of her fondly as she and Harry were friends with my then father-in-law, a lifetime ago. Now, there's a joyous party with all of them in paradise. Sorry for your loss, I'll never forget Rose's kindness. God grant peace through the hard days.

Rose was a great memory from my childhood growing up in the neighborhood, I was a Klotz that lived down the street, we played hide& seek every night using the pole right in front of Rose´s house. Rose would check on us, watch over us and always had a drink, cookie and even a bandaid when needed. Loved her dearly Pops and prayers for the family

My grandma use to rock us to sleep in her rocker on the sunporch, read us books, play games and have the best holiday meals . She cooked for all , took us to the 5&10 on Broadway and took us for bus rides even left us put the dime in the slot ! Of corse there was always an argument of which one of us kids where going to do it ! She will be missed
