Alice June Okenka

Alice June Okenka, age 92, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Ebeid Hospice, Sylvania surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 30, 1928 in Toledo, OH to Harold and Minnie (Watson) Sturt. A graduate of Waite High School, Alice worked as a secretary for LOF in downtown Toledo for over 10 years. She was also employed as a sales associate for both Steins and Tiedke's downtown department stores, and as a server in the Jeep Plant canteen. She was a charter parishioner of Regina Coeli Catholic Church.

Alice was energetic and fun-loving, a "spitfire" as her family and friends would say. Her passion was dancing the Polka with her beloved husband, Joseph "Yo-Yo" Okenka and they danced at Oak Shade Grove whenever they could. She adored her grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She enjoyed gardening and was gifted with a green thumb. She was also a proud member of the Toledo Metropolitan Ladies Club.

In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Okenka; sisters, Viola Sturt and Phyllis Neuman; and brothers, Durward and Leland Sturt. She is survived by her son, Stanley (Helen) Okenka; grandchildren, Genevieve Okenka and Cassie (Rick Desloge) Okenka; sister, Louise Caliguiri; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, April 19 from 4-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. with a rosary at 6 p.m. Funeral services will begin Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in Regina Coeli Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. Those attending visitation and services are asked to wear a mask and respect social distancing guidelines.
