Arnold Feldstein Obituary

Arnold S. Feldstein

Arnold S. Feldstein (everyone knew him as "Stanley/Stan") was born in the Bronx, New York on September 5, 1927. He died on March 22, 2022, while residing in Lauderhill, Florida. Stan grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Isadore and Lillian Feldstein. He had an older brother, Harold, who predeceased him.

Stan was very proud of being from Brooklyn and took every opportunity to discuss his upbringing with family, friends and strangers. Stan's family has no doubt that many of his quirks and great stories are a direct result of growing up in Brooklyn. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served his enlistment through 1946. Later he enrolled in New York University and attended classes while also working in the retail industry. Stan also had many great stories to tell about his experiences working in the garment district.

As luck would have it, Stan's career brought him to Toledo on Labor Day weekend 1952. Stan, when getting off the train on a Sunday afternoon, wondered "where all the action was" (in comparison to Brooklyn). Stan's good fortune continued as he started working at Tiedke's Department Store where, as fate would have it, he met the love of his life, Irene Nero. Stan and Irene were married on July 16, 1954. Irene survives him. They proceeded to have three children: Jay (Connie) Feldstein, Karen (Vergil) Smith and Larry (Cindy) Feldstein. He was blessed to have seven grandchildren: Stacy Kass, Randi Singer, Vergil J. Smith, David Smith, Lindsey Massoglia, Evan Feldstein and Tenley Feldstein.

He was also further blessed to have ten great-grandchildren.

Stan's family was first and foremost to him. He loved spending time with his wife, his children, his son-in-law and daughters-in-law, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.

Stan also enjoyed working with and for people. After leaving Tiedke's, he formed businesses with others including Fun City USA, Clothes City, Drug Emporium, and ultimately concluded his career while working for Bloomingdale's in Florida. Stan and Irene moved to Florida in 1984 and made numerous friendships while maintaining close contact with family and friends in Toledo. Stan loved sports. In addition to rooting for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Stan (and Irene) had season tickets to the Detroit Lions, University of Toledo basketball games, Miami Dolphins and Miami Hurricanes. He also enjoyed playing cards, attending all kinds of sporting events, playing some golf and may have placed a wager or two on sporting events when he had the opportunity.

Stan was an inveterate reader who enjoyed history and actively followed politics and all current events. He loved to read the New York Times and the New Yorker magazine until he was in his early 90s.

Stan had a lot of sayings, but his favorites were "always be honest, always do your best, and always treat people the way you want to be treated." He really enjoyed people.

Stan will be missed dearly by his family, friends and all who got a chance to know him.

Funeral services will be held at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida, on April 18, 2022.
